Set within three acres of countryside in Curdridge, Hampshire, Jasmine House reimagines an existing four-bedroom property as a contemporary family home shaped by its rural surroundings. Paddocks, mature trees and established hedgerows define the setting, with open views across the landscape and towards a riding arena informing the design approach. Adam Knibb Architects developed a scheme that builds on the character of the original house while introducing a more contemporary architectural language. The project involved the renovation of a single-family home and the expansion of the living area. The house's south elevation was completely demolished and replaced by a glass prism, which constitutes the new living area extension. This addition features a deep overhang that—in addition to shading the glazing—houses a barbecue area, effectively extending the dining space; the structure is framed by a monolithic fireplace that rises above the roofline. The project involves the renovation and expansion of a villa and its adjacent "barchessa" (an open-sided outbuilding), situated in the heart of an enchanting garden surrounded by a dense wood of broad-leaved trees, hornbeams, and maples. It is precisely the presence of this open-air "green room" that dictated the initial design choices aimed at enhancing the connection with the outdoors. Nestled in the countryside of Eraclea, this residence takes shape from a simple architectural gesture: a continuous, curvilinear roof that gathers and shelters all the interior spaces. The design employs a subtractive approach, highlighting the essential nature of the form and allowing materials, light, and geometry to define the living space. The project stems from the desire to transform a 1960s seaside home—a small building characterized by cramped rooms and a simple layout that failed to engage with the outdoors. The intervention completely reimagines the house, restoring a sense of airiness and openness: the new, compact, primary volume sits among the trees of the Jesolo pine forest like a solid, material object—unapologetically artificial, yet capable of entering into a dialogue with the natural setting. The fencing and vegetation create a sharp boundary with the public realm, obscuring the true layout of the interior spaces and the depth of the plot. Villa Gantiadi is a single-family residence situated on a picturesque rocky slope along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, in close proximity to the shoreline. The house is designed entirely below street level—a deliberate architectural decision that preserves uninterrupted sea views, protects the existing vegetation, and allows the building to merge harmoniously with the natural terrain. A contemporary house project, designed with natural materials and situated at the foothills of the mountainVitosha The main architectural highlight is the roof — a thin, strongly cantilevered slab with pronounced horizontality, creating a sense of a ‘floating’ volume and visually lightening the massive stone elements. The deep overhang serves both aesthetic and functional purposes, providing passive solar shading and control of natural light.
