Villa Gantiadi — Architecture Embedded in Nature

Villa Gantiadi is a single-family residence situated on a picturesque rocky slope along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, in close proximity to the shoreline. The house is designed entirely below street level—a deliberate architectural decision that preserves uninterrupted sea views, protects the existing vegetation, and allows the building to merge harmoniously with the natural terrain.

The project concept is rooted in deep respect for the site’s natural characteristics. The building’s horizontal lines—defined by exposed concrete edges along the terraces and roofline—gently follow the topography of the slope. Rather than creating sharp contrasts, the architecture integrates subtly into the landscape, to the extent that the visual boundary between building and terrain virtually disappears. The roof is shaped as a natural extension of the land, finished with grassy and rocky soil layers that blend seamlessly into the surrounding environment.

The eastern façade serves as the project’s primary architectural focal point. Opened toward the sea through expansive glazing, it represents the only visible expression of habitation. The selected materials—exposed concrete, natural stone, and glass—convey a raw, honest aesthetic that resonates with the spirit of the site.

The project was realized under significant constraints, including an exceptionally short construction period of just five months and challenging winter conditions. Despite these difficulties, the result is a home that does not dominate its surroundings, but rather complements them, preserving the authenticity and natural character of the landscape.

Villa Gantiadi was conceived as a holiday home, yet it is much more—a quiet, contemplative dwelling in unity with nature, understated and serene.
