Landscape Design Workshop has won a 2018 Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects design award in the Residential category for their project AMLI Sawgrass Village. The project site is located in the City of Sunrise with two residential buildings and a parking garage tucked in between. The 350-apartment community also includes a free standing leasing center, a dog park and intimate garden spaces. Each building is overlooking an interior courtyard. Landscape Design Workshop has won a 2018 Architecture MasterPrize™ Design Award in the Landscape Architecture / Outdoor Designs category for their Veranda at Plantation project. This lush tropical ‘urban jungle’ courtyard forms the social hub of the apartment complex and helps to mitigate the urban heat island effect. Kjellgren Kaminsky Architecture’s extension to Kollastaden School, situated in the Centre of Kungsbacka, is one of the largest Passive House buildings in Sweden. The building is strategically placed to envelope a communal schoolyard between the new and the old, providing a playful, inspiring and sustainable school environment centered around the students. There is parking for both cars and bicycles and zones for the school taxi and the schoolyard is used for activities that support learning. The building has a compact shape to make it more energy efficient, and the school interior combines open spaces with a calm atmosphere. This $150 million dollar project has entailed the reconstruction of a 400,000 SF landmark building built shortly after the turn of the 20th Century, and in fact, the first building built for public higher education in the United States. The client has been the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York acting as agent for CUNY. Exterior work has included reconstructing the entire building shell including replacing 65,000 different pieces of ornamental terra cotta with new durable thin-shell GFRC. Interior work has included restoration of the Great Hall, interior stairs and a complete evaluation of fire safety systems, IT systems and mechanical systems.
