In Grenoble, Baumschlager Eberle Architekten has completed Presqu’île - Spring, an office building constructed not far from the city’s main train station and the Europole business district. Ten kilometres northeast of the heart of Vienna, Baumschlager Eberle Architekten has completed Robin Seestadt: three mixed-use buildings that maintain interior temperatures of between 22 and 26 degrees celsius without mechanical systems. Our team in Paris demonstrated its expertise in sustainability on a particularly complex project. The task was to combine the listed building ‘Le Palacio’ with the requirements of the present and the necessities of ecology. One of the central tasks of Baumschlager Eberle Architekten is to "enhance the respective location" with their buildings. The social housing at 15, rue Saint Just in the Batignolles district of Paris, recently opened, confirms this thesis. 250 social housing units and 30 short-term flats have been combined in one building on 9,900 m² GFA. The valued developer is 3F residences, while Coallia and Aurore are responsible for operations and the project was realised by Eiffage. The task of architecture today is to meet the megatrends of the future. The LE PLUS project meets the essential challenges of urban densification to conserve land resources and create identities against anonymisation. Its compact, sculptural form requires little floor space. It also creates identity due to the clear symmetry and square outlines, which form a cube with open corners and remind of a cross-shape. The goals: The new administrative building of the Unionhilfswerk was to make an unpretentious but powerful contribution to the urban structure - with a particular focus on sustainability: the building was to blend into its surroundings, offer a high quality of stay, use resources sparingly and age gracefully. The implementation: The new building impresses with its simple elegance and the clear order and rhythm of the openings. Brief: A 175m-long 1980s building set at the boundary of a historic town centre and the River Seine was to be brought up to date whilst retaining the particular cachet of its location. Realisation: The result is a contemporary yet timeless structure with increased levels of autonomy. The building makes reference to the nearby banks of the Seine and the luxurious vegetation of the Île de la Jatte by giving vertical form to the idea of an “isle of green” and providing outdoor access via loggias and terraces. Combining affordable housing, shops and offices, green space and a climate-friendly power supply, Berlin-Lichtenberg’s new Am Rathauspark Quarter boasts high land-use efficiency and a wide range of potential uses with a slant towards contemporary technology and architecture.
