Black Barns
Black Barns is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional rural farmstead, set within the wetland landscape of Paterswolde in the Netherlands. The project originates from a vision to create a living environment where architecture and landscape are conceived as one integrated system. Drawing from local agricultural typologies, the design translates the familiar language of barns into a refined, modern composition. Rather than imposing itself on the site, the ensemble is carefully embedded within its surroundings, allowing nature, light and seasonal change to shape the character of the architecture.

IKEC de Zevensprong
In the Netherlands, KRFT has completed IKEC De Zevensprong, a Paris-proof school for children with special needs that will serve more than 450 pupils from the Hoorn region. The building is constructed around a radical, lightweight timber structure that is fully demountable and adaptable.
“Making a school Paris Proof is no simple task; you must be radical in every material choice. Thanks to natural materials in the structure, façades and finishes, 2 million kg of CO₂ (285 kg CO₂ per m²) is stored in the building for the long term. Primary school in 1 layer in wooden constructionBased on social and technical needs, many primary schools will be improved and replaced in the coming years. Many of those primary schools are single-storey and will remain so in the new construction option. From the vision of the B-group “Together. Building. Consciously.” we are closely involved in buildings with a social context. We also do this from a conscious vision where, in addition to a financially feasible building, we also build biobased, mainly in wood.

Biobased Barn House
The Biobased Barn House is located in the nature reserve 'Esvelderbeek' and therefore had to comply with strict regulations. The zoning plan prescribed a traditional form and responsible choice of materials. The clients went one step further; it was their express wish to build a simple, light and spacious house with natural biobased materials. The house takes its shape from the 'Hallenhuis', an authentic Veluwe farmhouse that used to be common in the area. The project consists of 1 volume with various functions such as living, storage and garage. The construction has the original Hallenhuis principle with the anchor-beam trusses as its basis. These trusses, made of European glued spruce, are visible in the interior wherever possible.
