Black Gemstone
Set in the wooded surroundings of Hollandsche Rading in the Dutch province of Utrecht, Black Gemstone was designed by MONK Architecten BNA as a dark, folded volume among the trees. The facades and roof planes flow visually into one another, giving the house the character of a black gemstone.
Behind this form is a sustainability strategy centered on extensive timber construction, reduced energy demand, renewable energy generation, and durable materials that can be maintained selectively.

Sustainable renovated city apartment in Amsterdam
This apartment, a characteristic 1930's house in Amsterdam West, located in the De Baarsjes neighbourhood, has been renovated in a fully sustainable and responsible manner.
The renovation focused on three main pillars:
1. Insulating the house and eliminating the use of gas.2. Using as many sustainable and healthy materials as possible.3. Optimizing the use of available square metres.

Exhibition home showcasing biobased materials and circular construction methods makes its debut at Dutch Design Week (DDW)
Presented for the first time during Dutch Design Week (DDW) from 16 to 24 October 2021 in Eindhoven, The Exploded View Beyond Building by Biobased Creations and RoosRos Architecten is an exhibition house constructed entirely with biobased materials and featuring circular construction methods. Open tothe public during Dutch Design Week, the concept can also be viewed online.

Bioclimatic winery, Aspiran
Located on the communal agricultural fringes, the plot, thanks to a relief of edge of plain, overlooks the historic village center. The landscape and the slope of the terrain dictated the layout of the uses. Being seen from afar, the new construction had to be thought of as part of the larger landscape.Inspired by agricultural architecture and the local climate, the project proposes a compact volume for a close relationship between form and material. The two entities of the program take roots in the slope.
For a better control of the supply of natural light and to ensure a development that requires a more consistent height, the wine-growing activity was placed on the ground floor.

The future of architecture through 10 biobased materials
As more architects, and their clients, prioritize sustainability goals and the connection to site and history, biobased materials are being more frequently used to create buildings around the globe. These materials, viewed through the lens of contemporary architecture, are creating distinctive structures that lean on the past but are decidedly of the moment. From timber frames to biobased plastics, these elements are creating new spaces that will help define the trajectory of architecture for years to come. Marco Vermeulen builds manifesto for timber construction to combat climate change
Marco Vermeulen designed Biobasecamp as an example of biobased architecture. He replaced conventional building materials such as concrete and steel with renewable material wood. The building is an attempt to show how architecture can combat climate change by opting for modular and removable wooden parts. Construction with wood also reduces CO2 in the atmosphere as trees extract CO2 from the air and in this way building with wood stores CO2 into a building.

Deployable Structure Pavilion is a bio-based space structure built for the Social Service of Commerce SESC. The Pavilion is located on the banks of the Perequê-Açu River in the city of Paraty, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Erected on a green campus on the seaside Atlantic Forest and planned to roof an open space, without walls or partitions, hosting cultural and social activities. The Pavilion was designed to be immersed in the cultural life of the city of Paraty, with its natural beauties, tropical biodiversity,native culture and colonial history.
