The project is located within a fully developed gated community in the district of Pilar, Buenos Aires. We understand that a house is a community of spaces that engage in dialogue with each other, potentially giving rise to various modes of inhabiting. The premise that defines the project is the generic, rethinking the modes of dwelling and how this condition interacts with contemporary architecture. BRIEF The Brick Lantern House is part of a gated community set on the outskirts of Bengaluru, on an odd -shaped corner plot which is of 2000 SFT site area. It’s a north facing plot bounded by two quiet roads on the north and east side, with panoramic views of the lush landscape and hills around the site. This two storey, 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home has generous sized rooms including a large upper floor retreat and terrace with views to Perth city skyline to the north. This five bedroom single family house, designed by GRAUX & BAEYENS architects, accepted the challenge of creating a dens program on a rather narrow plot with a less preferable orientation, combining a breath taking view on the Flemish wetlands.The nicest feature of the location that had to be incorporated, was the view at the back of the plot, facing the river and wetlands. Unfortunately a fully glazed facade looking at the vast landscape would not bring any direct sunlight into the house since it is orientated to the north. The design and construction of the Y House has evolved over a 5 year period, the result is a bespoke home designed to the specific needs and requirements of the client. The site is a large corner plot in the garden of the client’s existing home. It has extensive views through pine trees, over fields to the west and north, and residential neighbours to the south and east. Adjacent to the site on two sides is a 3m deep storm drain. In a quaint streetscape in South Yarra alongside its terrace house neighbours, Caroline's contemporary silhouette remains sympathetic and respectful. The streets are lined with L-shaped row houses neighbouring each other on narrow rectangular plots, each with its own long and narrow backyard.
