This care home in the small municipality of Zoersel was designed on the initiative of a private client. They set up a partnership with non-profit organisation Emmaus to develop a residential project for the family’s granddaughter and eight other residents with a mental disability. This facility, a residential, occupational and healthcare centre for persons with psychological, somatic or social issues or issues arising from an addiction, aims to offer its clients a contained, structured environment while they prepare for their reintegration into the community. Located amongst the orchards in the Rhone valley, halfway between the villages of Saxon and Charrat, the new facility is anchored in the rural structure of the locality. In the center of Best the direct surroundings of the mill have been considerably upgraded, initiated by Cello. Cello provides care and services for people with disabilities to living, working and leisure. At the site of the windmill in Best they developed a lunchroom and workshop -titled EEHT- for their cliënts. Ateliereen has supervised the building plans in Best. One part of the plan involved a very thorough renovation of the old mill house into a lunchroom. The Canuck Place Dave Lede House in Abbotsford provides specialized care and support for children and teenagers with progressive life-threatening illnesses, and helping their families cope with medical and emotional challenges. The project is located on a 1.9 acre Campus of Care site with two other special-needs residential facilities – Holmberg House and Matthew’s House. The 3-storey structure is nestled amongst several large trees and configured in plan to wrap a stand of majestic Douglas firs forming a south courtyard for children’s play. In Amersfoort a beautiful modern hospital has recently been build. Through the use of 5000 m² timber cladding the Meander Medical Centre now has a professional and friendly appearance. Carpenters from Foreco Timber Constructions have mounted a framework on the outer wall to apply the timber cladding of Western Red Cedar. The external cladding received a fire retardant treatment of SafeWood® Select. Unique about this treatment is that it is a maintenance free fire retardant. Since some cladding has a hight of 42 meters this was one of the requirements of timber. More

Close to the train station in Lelystad the Hanzeborg nursing home is situated, a contemporary yet timeless and remarkable building. EGM used the initial design as the basis for this building. A building where care, services and activities all come together. It is the combination of different disciplines which gives strength to the complex. Hanzeborg has a strong position within the local urban dependency.In the present social context, a private healthcare is no longer restricted to just one location.
