From competition to project In 2016, the city of Dunajská streda announced a public architectural competition for the reconstruction of the House of Mourning, which is part of the city cemetery. The international jury selected the design of architects Pavel Holík and Ján Hobrľ. The project is a Multi-faith cemetery whose intent and design is based upon core aesthetic, volumetric, phenomenological and ritualistic principles in an attempt to understand the cohesive inter-relationship between faith and sacred architecture. The cemetery of Mont-roig del Camp, a rural town located 6 km from the coast, in the Baix Camp region, in the Catalan province of Tarragona, is surrounded by fields of olives trees (Olea europaea). The old cemetery was built in 1862. It's located close to the urban center north of its historic center. A broad surface, not threatened by anything, is a motif and inspiration for an appropriate and proportional architectural intervention that at the start respects the value of open natural surroundings, their micro-location, views and landscape scenes in all directions. Planned zoning is subordinated to layers, slopes and orientations and at the same time conditioned by the existing communication lines. The burial ritual is processed in a civilized, liturgical ceremony and within traditional customs. The design concerns an area of about 4,500 square metres, which is placed next to the already existing cemetery in order to complete the area allocated for this purpose. This plan, which also involves the south side, where we can find the current side entrance, it const the building of about 1,230 loculi, 720 ossuaries/cinerary urns and 12 private chapels, thus the complex will cover the citizen’s needs for the next 15 years. A new funeral hall is placed in the cemetery grounds at the edge of the town of Valašské Meziříčí.The architectural competition took place in spring 2014 with about 60 participants. The task was to design a new building of a funeral hall for 200 people along with columbaria, scattering garden and adaptation of space of the main cemetery entrance. Our winning project covered all the required elements into the one composed unit – ceremonial district.This ceremonial district is a clearly defined space element with a strong symbolic importance. The design for the extension of the Duinhof cemetery consists of total integration of landscape, graves, wall graves, buildings and five mausoleums. The buildings, which incorporate offices, storage and a reception area are built into the beautiful surroundings, offering a dignified final resting place. More
