Studio ST Architects renovated a pre-war Manhattan penthouse apartment to accommodate a multi-generational, Asia-based family and highlight the wrap-around views of Central Park. If we had to choose the best keywords to describe the "Nura" Guesthouse we could say "balance" and "subtlety". For this project, the balance was sought on as many levels as possible: between what is built and the surrounding nature, both in terms of volume and texture, between visible and what is hidden, so that the proposed architecture is subtly anchored in the atmosphere, without visually aggressing the landscape. Level Apartment is a residential fit-out of an apartment within an industrial building in Hoxton, London. The design uses level changes, sliding walls and transparency to host a range of activities in a single flowing space. A concise material palette of oak and ceramics create clear and simple forms that accentuate the scale of the existing form, while also offering a warm contrast to the concrete shell. In this inventive interior reimagining of a Romanesque Revival pre-war building which previously served as a whale bone cutting facility, simple textures merge with the beautiful curvature and direction of light within the space. Exquisite pieces add a sophisticated but yet approachable charm to the living spaces. Accented with wood details and marble counters, these understated details provide a timeless elegance. This private residence was an exercise in sophisticated design and modern minimalism. The design maximizes natural light with an abundance of fixed and sliding glass throughout the 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home. A simple material palette of ipe and white stucco was selected for the exterior, while the interior is warmed with custom walnut cabinetry, Italian marble and brass fixtures. The home was designed with the region’s temperate climate in mind. Sliding doors and operable windows throughout the home offer limitless opportunities for ventilation while radiant heat cement floors and two indoor fireplaces provide warmth on cooler days. The project's site is located in Yazd. Studying the old part of the city, old houses, and comparing them to the contemporary buildings, and houses, led to a critical attitude toward space, and volume. Studying the possibilities of extending the interior into the exterior, was one of our main approaches.Instead of two or three levels, The building contains a series of connected surfaces that fade into each other.In other words, this project is about borders, and mergeable areas, trying to obtain spatial features of old houses in a modern house. This luxury residence was embedded into this steep hillside to overlook Lake Travis from two confluent directions. We were challenged to create views through, and access to, the pool from every room on the main level. In response, we created a glass jewell box that sits on top of a concrete plinth. The main entry area is an open void that bridges the lake to the user upon immediate entry. The lower level is is comprised of four individual private suites that pierce through the concrete shell to accommodate lake views.   More

In the smallest village of The Netherlands, Persingen, an old farm was transformed into a dream villa. Take a look at this building with a large annex. This spacious villa is characterized by a perfect combination of FAKRO daylight solutions and the vertical windows and doors of the exclusive FAKRO INNOVIEW line. Engaging in socially responsible architecture is an integral part of Hybrid’s philosophy of practice–that’s why for Hill House, the firm partnered with a longtime Seattle resident to turn their oversized lot into a total of three homes.
