Vlorë Stadium

The Vlore Stadium project rethinks the role of a stadium within the urban fabric of Vlore, Albania. Rather than treating the stadium as a single-purpose sports facility, the proposal considers it as a new piece of city capable of reconnecting different parts of the urban area and generating everyday public activity. The project site lies between the main road of the city and a less-defined urban area. The proposal therefore extends beyond the stadium itself, establishing a new relationship between the predominantly residential western side of the city and the eastern area through a sequence of public and mixed-use spaces. A new sports park is introduced between the stadium and the residential area, incorporating a covered swimming pool and... More

Xi’an International Football Centre

Contemporary football stadiums are optimized for events yet detached from everyday urban life. Despite the central role of spectators, their presence is often secondary to operational and commercial priorities. As a result, stadiums function as episodic environments—intensely active during matches but largely dormant otherwise, with their scale and enclosure reinforcing a separation from the city. Yuanbo Jia & Zhijun Lei Yuanbo Jia & Zhijun Lei The design of the Xi’an International Football Centre proposes openness as a primary strategy to reconfigure this relationship. The perceived mass of the stadium is reduced by sinking the lower seating tier below ground level, significantly lowering its overall he... More

Kerbala Stadium

Kerbala Stadium – “The Kerbala Arches” proposes a football venue that fuses Kerbala’s historical, religious, and architectural heritage with a distinctly contemporary identity. The architectural concept is anchored in a powerful local symbol: the pointed arch, referenced from the city’s sacred architecture and reinterpreted as the project’s primary megastructure. StudioMAAC A ring of 16 intersecting arches (approximately 38 m wide and 19 m high) forms a protective perimeter and supports a system of tensile canvas roofing. This intermediary structure operates as a threshold—an outer “transition” space before entering the stadium—bringing multiple benefits: solar control, the f... More
