NATIONAL STADIUM 55K IN TRIPOLI (LIBYA)

Inspired by the great sand dunes in the Sahara Desert, and the waves and colours of the Mediterranean Sea, surrounding Tripoli, this Stadium, which will host 55,000 spectators in the great city of Tripoli, is designed with innovation and the latest technology to be a sport monument.

Reflecting with its colourful façade and Mediterranean wave-like shape, the beauty and colours of Libya and multicultural African spirit, without being affiliated with any particular African country, or the colour of any particular team.

The stadium aims to reproduce the image of the undulating dunes of the Sahara and the waves of the Mediterranean through its original volume and wrapped around with a skin coloured and sinuous shapes, that replicate the undulating motion by formal design elements, pedestal, bleachers, walls and roof.

This stadium is conceived from the standpoint of structural optimization and construction system. We have studied a system that meets the different elements of the project in an efficient manner, while it is totally innovative in its formal aspect and distinctly modern.

The cost was well studied to not be high in any measures.

The front of the stage is solved by self-carrying sheets of various colours; the idea is to create multicolour strips by playing with the separation and inclination of those that emphasize the rippling effect of the project.

The multicoloured mosaic of the façade reflects the image of its own colourful atmosphere inside the stadiums.

This system allows screening and filtering of light that evokes the interior spaces of buildings in Arab tradition and in parallel with its colour reflects the African mind.
Other possibilities are prefabricated concrete elements horizontally or vertically arranged.

The roof of the stadium is designed in a unique and innovative way, its concave and convex shape matches perfectly that of the outer side of the stadium, and the colours of its laminated sheets are in complete harmony with those of the seats and side façade.

The grandstand of the stadium is designed in an asymmetrical shape to accommodate easy access and perfect view for all audiences.
The main access for the general public is between the first excavated level and the second level (outer ground level).
