The Vlore Stadium project rethinks the role of a stadium within the urban fabric of Vlore, Albania. Rather than treating the stadium as a single-purpose sports facility, the proposal considers it as a new piece of city capable of reconnecting different parts of the urban area and generating everyday public activity.
The project site lies between the main road of the city and a less-defined urban area. The proposal therefore extends beyond the stadium itself, establishing a new relationship between the predominantly residential western side of the city and the eastern area through a sequence of public and mixed-use spaces. A new sports park is introduced between the stadium and the residential area, incorporating a covered swimming pool and a linear spine of complementary functions including commercial spaces, gyms, bars and restaurants.
The architectural concept takes its reference from Vlore's existing urban structure, characterized by a regular grid, compact buildings and a shared podium occupied by commercial activities at ground level with residential volumes above. The stadium adopts this logic through a common, predominantly commercial podium that continues the urban ground floor, while mixed-use volumes rise above it to define the architectural composition.
The program is conceived to support both match days and everyday use. Alongside the arena, the complex incorporates food and beverage spaces, shops, a fan shop, museum, restaurants, VIP and media facilities, and other public and service functions.
Flexibility is an integral part of the proposal. The stadium includes fixed and adaptable areas, with spaces conceived to accommodate different uses beyond sporting events, including mixed-use areas and installations for art and other public activities.
The result is conceived not simply as a new stadium, but as an urban catalyst: a sports destination integrated into the city and intended to become part of Vlore's everyday public life.
