Cape San Juan

The Cape San Juan residence overlooks the waters of the sound from a rare undeveloped waterfront lot with direct beach access. Gently sloping north toward the shoreline, the site offered expansive views as well as challenges of exposure and proximity to neighboring homes on either side. The design takes advantage of view corridors and solar orientation, while creating privacy from nearby neighbors; resulting in house that feels simultaneously sheltered and open. Andrew Pogue Photography Andrew Pogue Photography The architectural diagram is conceptualized as a protective “shell.” Along the east and west edges, more solid walls shield the interior spaces from adjacent properties. To the north and south, the structure op... More

Indie Lab

Indie Labs is the product of a collaboration between two studios: StudioSC, based in New York City, and Base Taller, based in Medellín, Colombia. With deep personal and professional ties to Medellín, StudioSC was invited to join the design team for a ground-up office building just outside the city center, perched at the edge of a natural preserve. The site’s sharply triangular geometry, dictated further by setback requirements, presented both a constraint and a starting point. Rather than accept a purely angular solution, the design softened the form by curving all three sides of the building. This move evolved into a larger design language of flowing, curvilinear spaces, forms that visually and spatially connect the bui... More

Casa en Delta

The house is situated in one of the most rugged areas on the outskirts of Argentina's most densely populated urban centre, the Buenos Aires Delta. This initial juxtaposition defines the site: an access canal lies at the front of the plot, while an endless, humid willow forest stretches behind. The ground continually shifts between water and land, creating a dynamic terrain. Galgo Case 1 by BRUTO STUDIO responds to these conditions by positioning the house lengthwise, capturing the dual landscape, and maintaining a continuous relationship with the ever-changing environment. BRUTO STUDIO The building takes the form of a timber parallelepiped with long, continuous elevations, subtly punctuated by the entrance and semi-permeable sections... More

Tetris House Bukowno

The house is located in beautiful surroundings – set within a wooded area, quite close to the little river, at the outskirts of Bukowno – small town in Malopolska region, Poland. Tomasz Zakrzewski Tomasz Zakrzewski Tomasz Zakrzewski Tomasz Zakrzewski Tomasz Zakrzewski The plot is very long and narrow with the road access from the shorter (southern) side, this has determined the shape of the footprint of the house.According to the clients the primary objective was to provide a living space in the ground floor which will be open towards west, and towards the garden in the northern part of the site, and in the same time to let in maximum sunlight from the south and south-west open and transparent as possib... Arcano House

Merged into a wooded site to the outside of Morelia, Michoacán, this vacation home emerges from the idea to create a shelter that respectfully dialogues with its immediate context. Through this, the building emerges from the site and converts into a visual echo from the surroundings. The single-story dwelling takes advantage from the length and sloped topography from the site, sitting the house above the ground, giving the sensation that it floats in the middle of the trees. César Belio César Belio César Belio On front façade, the house closes from the exterior and presents to the user as a solid and latent platform that is integrated to the environment. This volume stands out by its flatne... More

Wildflower

As construction begins on a pristine site, it can be painful to watch the earthwork. Carpets of native grasses and flowers are ripped up and certain trees inevitably must be removed to make way for a new house. Andrew Pogue Photography In the case of Wildflower House, in Washington’s Methow Valley, the site's unspoiled meadows and forest demanded a careful approach. This included hiring a native plant specialist, whose team restored lush vegetation to areas damaged during construction. In addition, the surrounding forest was thinned of small-diameter trees according to "firewise" best practices. The result is a healthy and beautiful site that remains hospitable to abundant wildlife.  Andrew Pogue Photography Nestled t... More

Seaside Pavilion

Seaside Pavilion perches on the edge of woods and beach at Bohai Sea as a reception space. Architects renovated the original building and added various areas for reading, tea, meditation, dining, and resting. Forest and Sea surround the site, where people spend leisure time in the excellent vista.  Arch-Exist Photography Arch-Exist Photography XUTING Touched with the great scape, the architect aims to blend the building into its surroundings and experience the place too much in the site. The design strategy applies to transparency, including glass curtainwall and a whole roof which construct the new body. Architect Donghyun JUNG mentioned, "We pursuit weakening the building in the environment, strengthening the physical sen... More

Birch Office

The office building is surrounded by a full-grown birch forest, which served as the inspiration for our bureau when searching for an architectural style. The inversion of the natural environment was used as an artistic technique. A dark volume of the building appears against the background of smooth white birch trunks. In contrast to the lower part of the birch trunks covered with black rough bark, a light fragile facade of structural glazing was formed. The form of the building was given by its function. This is a building with a closed outer perimeter and an inner courtyard. The dynamic volume of the building is defined by the illumination of all its elements and the elements of the courtyard. The courtyard is the heart of the facility, a... More

Clear lines in the forest

On a beautiful forest plot on the outskirts of Hilversum, this modern bungalow is hidden among the tall trees. With its simplicity of clear lines, the design contrasts nicely with the surrounding landscape. The forest runs right up to the facade, putting one in direct contact with the surroundings. The large glass surfaces make you feel being part of nature, where the large overhangs give a sense of privacy. Additonally they keep out direct sunlight in the summer months, where in the winter they allow sunlight to reach deep into the home. Stijn Poelstra Sun orientation plays an important role in the design. Each space is optimally situated in realtion to the position of the sun. For example, the master bedroom faces to the north-east... More

Little House on the River

“a reflection on our landscapes and a return to the essence of childhood to inhabit, play and explore, the refuge, the tree house, summer, the metaphorical value of the created territory, the awareness of the lived place, the passage of time, inside the forest and next to the river" Caption The landscape is what is present in nature and goes beyond the visual or perceptual if we understand it as a system of resources and interactions that allow it to be, giving it value is being able to dialogue with it without damaging its essence. Architecture is when you know how to read that system and join it, if you are environmentally conscious, as one more element that makes the most of resources without damaging them, where, every day,... Forest of Emily Resort

The lighting that we implemented for Emily Resort made an exciting object - a forest doubled in the mirror of the lake, which is observed by hotel residents throughout the evening and night from all rooms, from the restaurant and terrace, as well as from along the embankment from the hotel and events hall With light, we emphasized a living corner of nature that you want to contemplate even more. This forest is perceived both on a macro scale from the opposite shore of the lake and locally, walking along the embankment when you see all its details. And that's why we made it, taking into account these nuances. For this, we had to create 3 independent rows of lamps that smoothly go deeper into the forest. Expolight We wanted to show:- its... Dujiangyan Forest Resort Hotel

Dujiangyan city features in the wild forests in Chengdu Plain, famous of the Panda, and a tremendous ancient water institution in two thousand years ago. Our project lies in the raw massif; and is accompanied by forests, rivers, precious wild creatures. Like a floating roof between the hills and trees, the architecture provides a primitive forest retreat experience. PLAT ASIA The architect is designated to decide on the site on a vast scale. Walking in the rural and original forest, the architect finally selected four areas, bare ground and covered by rare vegetation. The building surrounded by trees avoids the original environment. Considering the local solar angle in winter (35.5 degrees), maximizing the daylight, used layers of roo... More
