SEONINJANG

Studio millionyears from Korea aimed to transform abandoned warehouse structures in the outskirts of Gwangju in Gyeonggi Province, Korea, into a new and vibrant space. The resulting proposal worked to maximally maintain the previous appearance of the structure that was obtained through the passage of time, while at the same time creating a space in which people can have new experiences.   On the first visit to the warehouse buildings for the project, the studio members were reminded of cactuses from the atmosphere generated by the structures. Just like cactuses that developed needles to survive in arid and barren environments, the buildings in the project site were sharp and stiff, which gradually drove people away from them.  ... More

Character Cafe & Gallery

Character Café & Gallery is located next to one of the main streets of Mehrshahr in Alborz province, with the area of 530 square meters. This old building was a two-storey construction with poor infrastructure, a complex plan and numerous arched openings. Due to lack of budget and accelerate runtime, we tried to create the least amount of damage and alteration to the old building by applying a flexible idea and creating a new definition for the archshaped openings. So we redefined Sabat which is an element of historical crossings of Yazd city in order to change the depth of opening and creating elongation in the form of arches. By this changes, we have transformed those arches to the corridors to create circulation and emphasized... More

PORTS1961 Shanghai: Flagship

A retail experience that embraces the history of The Bund as an important port and art-deco district. CHALLENGEFor this project, we were tasked with designing a flagship retail experience in Shanghai for fashion brand Ports 1961. The design had to embrace the history and character of The Bund, a downtown cultural district known for its art-deco style and—history as one of China’s most important ports—while creating a signature brand system that could be applied in locations around the world. INNOVATIONWe recycled the materials from a recently-demolished historic Chinese house, CNC-milling the wood to create a fluid system reminiscent of a ship’s hull that displays the fashion collection. TheLoveTriangle Gallery

Design collective TheLoveTriangle has designed and completed its off-grid pavilion in Baabdat, Lebanon. The pavilion aims to provide its members with a space for experimentation, exhibitions and art residencies. The designers aimed to create a peaceful space, a gesture that would not compete with the surrounding landscape and would provide a neutral canvas for the artists and exhibitors.therefore, the design of the pavilion was stripped down to a pure and primitive architectural form – a rectangle of 96 sqm (1033 sqft), discreetly nested in a clearing between the pine trees. The structure’s transparent glazing allows for a natural connection with the site. The pavilion sits in a location that was historically used for agricultural p... More

Galeri Nev Kırlangıç

The main design task of the Galeri Nev project is to install a proper art gallery in a single open space that is formed of exposed glazed façades on the three sides. This entrance floor shop, being on a sloped terrain and within a valley meadow extending to embassy gardens, has a picturesque view, rare for Ankara. Possessing the view while creating a secluded exhibition environment is the contradiction that the project is based on. The idea is, basically, to place an introverted exhibition area besides the only existing wall and to locate other functions on the exterior side overlooking the landscape. The street façade side is designed with the "wall-door" idea, which tricks on the Turkish idiom that means to face an unopened door. In... More

Remai Modern

Connecting the City and the RiverThe form and massing respond to the low, flat topography of Saskatchewan’s prairie landscape and evoke regional agrarian traditions of low-rise, rectilinear sheds and barns. Four cantilevered horizontal volumes engage the River edge to the south and 2nd Avenue to the east. The south elevation spans the length of the site and the ground floor is fully glazed to provide continuous day-lit public spaces with access to the River. Entrances at each end integrate the gallery into the new pedestrian flows along the river bank.Public spaces on every level are organized to maximize the connection to the river. A central atrium organizes the plan and offers a community gathering space. A generously-scaled connect... More
