From the very first study, the intention was to connect the interior space with the exterior. We envisioned that corner as a place that genuinely feels open—not private—where anyone could sit.

To create this connection with the city, in addition to the glass structure, which offers transparency between inside and out, we made decisions together with the client to avoid fences, install benches for passersby, and place a sculpture visible to everyone. The transitions, designed to happen smoothly and gently, also contribute to the outcome. The entry canopy, for example, allows light to pass through while beginning to cast shade along the path, gradually leading into the space.

People who study, work, or live nearby use the benches to wait for someone, make a phone call, or simply take a moment. Those walking their dogs enjoy the greenery—rare in this more central area of Curitiba—as well as the horizontal scale of the landscape design, which creates a sense of calm.

This is something we would love to see more often in the city: more private spaces that foster a friendly relationship with people and the urban environment—places that make us feel comfortable sitting inside or in front of them, or that gently pull us away from narrow sidewalks and endless walls.
