Smokehouse is a communal dining pavilion nestled within a shaded grove, conceived as an open-air shelter for meals, gatherings, and community meetings. Adjacent to an outdoor kitchen, the structure offers protection from the elements while remaining open and connected to its surroundings. Designed and built as a community project, the pavilion employs modest materials and simple construction methods. A straightforward A-frame wood structure, clad in cedar shake, rests on a concrete foundation that forms two continuous sunken benches flanking a long communal table. The award-winning Skokie Valley Synagogue renovation transformed the sanctuary, built in 1963, from a dark and formal room to an ethereal, bright and ADA accessible space for a contemporary congregation. The renovation included the installation of new windows and HVAC system throughout the building, as well as converting the old, large stage into new, modern bathrooms and a coat room. MUN Architects transforms a 4 story shophouse into a tech office.Located in the middle of the hectic city of Bangkok, Thailand. The typical low ceiling shophouse building has been reprogrammed and refurbished for Baksters. Started by emptying the building, removing some unwanted floor slabs, and keeping the original reinforced concrete post and beam structure. The timber walls are introduced as a buffer from the brick walls being used in the whole alley to create a sense of being enclosed by natural material. An extensive renovation to a Lower North Shore dwelling focuses on rebuilding the rear section of the home for a family of six.  Douglas Frost The design incorporates a light funnel above the primary living zone with an aperture to the sky that allows natural light to enter the space throughout the day. It’s a cold February morning and two architects visit a dark, dank and rather unsatisfying office | industrial unit as a potential first studio for a fledgling practice. Having laid empty for 2 years it wasn’t attracting the attention that the landlord wished but beneath the shoddy interior there was hope, there was potential.
