On a South West facing lot with little vegetation and a dry and barren environment, the house seeks a balance between privacy and a relationship with the exterior space. Persistent and easy-maintenance materials are used from the start, understanding the environment and the user's requirements. The Observatory - Isna

Nestled on the edge of a gorge in Greece, the Observatory stands as a testament to the dreams of an American-Thai family spanning three generations. Mirto Iatropoulou Mirto Iatropoulou This architectural venture involved delicately connecting two independent buildings that had stood side by side for centuries. The structures, perched on the gorge’s edge, underwent meticulous stabilisation and rejuvenation. Local heritage materials were used, seamlessly blending the new with the old. Monastery House

When looking for somewhere to build their holiday home the decision was easy for our clients. Their heritage was strongly linked to the remote and rugged lands of the Mani Peninsula in Greece. It was the location on which they had their hearts set for a holiday retreat for their extended, multigenerational family. The plot of land they purchased was set high on a mountainside offering spectacular views, which can only really be compared to travelling on an aeroplane, peering down on the village and the sea below. Panagiotis Voumvakis The brief:Our task was to create a space for the family to come together whilst also making room for them each to have individual space within the complex. Due to the remote and rather wild location of th... More

Helikon Shipping Offices

In the center of the seaside suburb of Glyfada, are the headquarters of Helikon Shipping, a shipping company with a rich heritage since 1961. Today Helikon is low profile company, of high standards, professionally and culturally related to Japan. The total number of employees at its headquarters amounts to 25 people. Accordingly, Urban Soul Project was asked to design a space with a notion to Japan, incorporating a subtle use of color. As a result, the contemporary design approach of the office articulates a distinct design language, which nevertheless foresees the integration of elements from Helikon's past, as well as the cultural and professional relationship with Japan. Belleview Apartment

The Belleview apartment is located in a typical 1960s multistorey building on Thessaloniki’s seafront. Its original design exhibited the era’s architectural characteristics: narrow corridors, continuous constricted balconies, and small balcony doors, lacking comfort and a connection to the environment.  Kim Powell Photography Kim Powell Photography The new apartment was tailored for a young family seeking a closer link with the coastal surroundings, aiming to evoke a sun-white washed effect within the living space and to challenge the traditional arrangement of the 1960s. Full Moon / Hotel complex in Zakynthos Island

neo hut / Hotel complex in an olive garden

In the last century, during the summer time, crossing the plains and the seashore of the island of Zakynthos, one encountered different variations of an interesting ephemeral architectural form, the primitive stilt hut. This construction primarily functioned as an observation unit during agricultural work, and later as a pleasant and cool place for the residents to stay during the summer. Basic elements of the architectural composition are found in these constructions, such as the grid, the overlapping placement of similar elements, the openings towards north and east, the placement of the volume on piles for enhancing the cooling of the construction with the aim of the local winds etc. These principles influenced us for the design of the t... Magma Resort & Spa

The hotel complex is located between man-made and natural surroundings. Placed in a mild terrain near the village of Vourvoulos in Santorini, it is surrounded by traditional ’pezoules’, large areas of cultivated land that follow the altitudes and are formed with stone walls. The design approach attempts to create a built form that is created from the interplay between contradictory - complementary elements that reference the particular setting and the wider location. Organic shapes from black volcanic stones follow the curved contour lines creating a landscape that reflects the shape of the terrain. Occasionally off-white prisms that resemble the color of ‘aspa’ (volcanic ash of Santorini) appear. Christos Drazos... More
