Architects Roman and Williams incorporated tambour panels along the bar front to enhance a rich interior clad in a black and white tile floor. Leather bar chairs, a steel counter, tile walls, and and hanging lights combine together to create the feel of a true classical American eatery. More

Eero Saarinen’s iconic 1962 TWA Flight Center at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City is among the most significant examples of mid-century modern architecture in the world. The landmark was shuttered for nearly 20 years after the airlines went out of business in 2001, but was later protected in 2005 when it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Alloy has unveiled the model residence at its latest project, 168 Plymouth, designed by Rebecca Robertson. The last historic factory to residential loft conversions in Brooklyn’s Dumbo neighborhood, two 100- year-old paint factory buildings, an 1891 Brick and Timber and a 1921 Daylight Factory, have been attentively transformed by Alloy’s architecture team. Alloy preserved the buildings’ many historic elements while introducing clean and modern interiors, which Rebecca Robertson of RR Interiors used as the backdrop for her vision for a contemporary Brooklyn family’s loft. In crafting The Standard Highline, the guestrooms had to speak to the ethos of The Standard while incorporating a finer material palette and making the experience sophisticated enough for the New York and international audiences. In contrast to the concrete shell of the building, Roman and Williams strived to give the rooms a warmth that harkened to a bee hive environment – organic and beautiful, but also efficient. The Rock Creek House is an adaptive re-use project of a 1920’s brick structure that was originally composed of two floors, with a mechanical basement and attic. This adaptation leverages the robustness of the existing structure to capture the attic and basement to double the house’s size, while expanding its functions into the landscape. While the northern street façade remains relatively intact --formal, insular, and composed-- the southern exposure to Rock Creek is made more generous.
