The design embraces the (relative) lack of skilled labour available on the island by combining simple “brutalist” concrete forms with local stone and timber and woven elements. The design comprises 47 suite (rooms) in several configurations and 20 villas in a mixture of 2 and 3 bedroom variants, which follow the contours of the site to allow sea views from all.

Taking cues from the traditional Indonesian architecture of a Joglo house, this house in South Jakarta, designed by Ismail Solehudin Architecture, displays a striking roof structure.

In the context of the pandemic, the client required a congregational prayer room and communal areas that accommodated the needs of a large family, in addition to their interest in the form and meaning of a Joglo house. The architects beautifully reflected the requirements in a limited space, deriving a “distracted” form.

That condition may or may not be good for a house, depending on how much sunlight penetration that still comfortable for the inhabitants. East and West facing are usually big concern in tropical context. Banjar House in South Tangerang, Indonesia, finds form in its response to site orientation and sun
Located in the residential area of South Tangerang, Indonesia, Banjar House by Wiyoga Nurdiansyah is defined by site orientation and the sun. The layout of the building extends east to west with openings concentrated towards the north and the green areas that act as a privacy buffer. In response to the strong sun, the front eastern façade is a massive wall.

A serene escape from the chaos of the city, MONOHOUSE Chapter I by monostudio is located in the north west city of Surabaya, Indonesia. It is situated on a small site measuring 7m x 12 m with no buildings to the left or the right.
