With a verdant panoramic view of the mountains and deep woods of coconut and palm trees, the site lays plain with no special characters of terrain or landscape. Being the developer's site, the surrounding environs of about 12 acres including our site are plain. This led to create an interesting building which should respect nature. We started our design focusing on 25% on construction and 75% on nature. Speaking of sustainability, growing and planting trees is not only sustainable, how our building responds to the nature is more important. The designer of this project believes that the key to achieving a comfortable living space is to keep things simple. His clear-minded approach to transforming the dated and inefficient interiors of this 27-year-old three-storey intermediate terrace home in the east of Singapore is evident. The once dark and claustrophobic walled-in spaces on the ground level have been replaced by a series of open plan zones dressed in a controlled colour scheme that takes advantage of the existing height and depth of the space. EXISTING Barn B is a renovation project, converting an existing flint barn into a series of open living spaces. The barn is situated amongst a cluster of agricultural buildings which together form a sheltered courtyard high upon a hill.   Caption Prior to works commencing, the interior of the main barn featured exposed solid stone walls that supported four timber trusses. Natural daylight filled into the barn from high level gable end windows. Meanwhile, two arched external doorways cut through the central axis of the barn, connecting the sheltered courtyard on one side to the countryside on the other. Earthy, simplicity… these are the first two words which the clients pronounced during our first meeting as fundaments of the inspirational concept leading the project of their Mediterranean house in Italy. And it was suddenly reciprocal love. Others words we used were: open space, integration, solidity , continuity , natural, easy, sustainable and environmental friendly. The context: an existent private house with garden and swimming pool of about 200 sq.m with a fantastic view and natural environment on the extreme western Ligurian coast, at about 6 km to the French border and the Côte d’Azur. Context and setting La Maison Gauthier is located in the Laurentians, in Quebec, near the town of Mont-Tremblant. It is set in a hilly terrain and is surrounded by a dense expanse of forest characteristic of this mountainous region. The lot is located on a rocky hill covered with spruce and birch. It is bounded to the east by the main road and to the west by the owners’ horse farm. The clients wanted a volume with views largely oriented towards the horses’ riding arena below.
