Mirage
Mirage stood at the entrance to the AFROBANANA Festival in Lefkara like a portal beckoning visitors to step beyond the everyday. At first glance, it appeared as a sleek, hexagonal corridor of mirrored surfaces, the angles carefully chosen to produce a disorienting yet captivating interplay of reflections. By night, battery-powered stage lights illuminated the panels from the outside, casting shifting patterns of light that intensified the illusion. Despite its otherworldly appearance, the installation was surprisingly straightforward in its construction: aluminum composite panels with a mirror finish were folded to create nearly seamless joints, supported by scaffolding that allowed for quick assembly without wasting material. Painted steel sheet and metal oxidation create unique effects, where lived-in, corroded matter defines new aesthetic codes.
