John van Groenedaal John van Groenedaal John van Groenedaal John van Groenedaal One of the remarkable features of this house is the seamless integration of sustainable energy sources. Cleverly placed solar panels on the roof generate abundant electricity without detracting from the architectural design. Additionally, advanced insulation techniques and efficient heat pump systems enable the house to generate its own energy, resulting in a carbon-neutral living environment. Single story modern house

This one-story house with a flat roof is situated in Thailand. The interior of the house features an open-plan living room that integrates the kitchen and dining area. Moreover, it contains a master bedroom, a guest bedroom, and a study room. Outside, the house is remarkable for its wide terraces around a spacious outdoor pool with comfortable soft seating lounge area and an artistic garden of stones. xzoomproject xzoomproject   Due to the extreme heat of the region and the client's desire for large windows, we decided to use long roof overhangs to provide natural shade for the interior of the house. Additionally, due to seasonal rain floods, we chose to raise the house above ground level. This also enabled us to cr... More

East Hampton Cottage

This guest house and artist's studio in a secluded site in the Hamptons was designed in a primitive Italianate style inspired by the paintings of Giotto.  Situated around a central courtyard, the L-shaped building culminates in a tower that offers a viewing promontory from its hilltop location.  The earth-toned stucco façade provides a vibrant backdrop for the verdant setting, which extends to the house with potted plants and flower-beds. Michael Moran Michael Moran In contrast to the exterior’s exuberant palette, the interior exudes a cool modern calm perfect for showcasing the owner’s artwork and furnishings. One wing is devoted to the owner's art studio - a large open space illuminated by diffused... More

COLLECTION DUB

The Dub Collection presents itself minimalistic and elegant. The proportions are precisely tuned. The principle is simple: The handmade shade of pressed aluminium is beeing supported by a wooden base. A modern LED light source creates a precise cone of light - a comfortable direct lighting without glare. The Dub lights are versatilely applicable - in private environments or in public spaces. Designed by kaschkasch. The shades of the Dub Collection are beeing pressed traditionally by hand from 3mm aluminium. Visible processing traces show the personal signature of the craftsman. The wooden base made from solid oak wood is precisely milled and accommodates the LED light source. The illuminant can easily be exchanged. The shade is available i... More

Modern villa with thatched roof

On a beautiful plot in a wooded dune area near Vlissingen stands this luxury villa, designed by BNLA architects. The villa is characterised by a white plastered main volume with a sleek thatched roof. The combination with the grey natural stone and the anthracite window frames give the house a modern look. The challenge in this design assignment lay in the programme. The aim was to create five bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. BNLA designed a house with an extension on the side and back, without making it feel like an extension. This was achieved by placing a glass facade of 8 meters wide at the front of the house, which connects the house and the extension both functionally and visually. Because the glass facade can be opened completel... More

Serenity

The desert is open space and long views, but also the close-up, detailed perfection of the cactus flower. It is nature’s serene minimalism. This is the setting for our project inside the gated community of The Vintage in Indian Wells, California. William MacCollum This project involved deep creative collaboration with the clients, who partnered with architect Marc Whipple and the W^R team on every aspect of the interior design, and personally curated or co-designed each of the many art pieces throughout the house. With a passion for racing and cars, and also for collecting fine wines, the program was going to include dazzling and innovative displays that would be both highly visible and striking artistic statements. This house... More

Bighorn

William MacCollum   This project was built adjacent to the Mountain Course in the Bighorn Golf Club, Palm Desert, California, in the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains. The design of the central living space has formed a theatrical proscenium, framing the desertscape scene of mountains, trees, and sky. William MacCollum   Our client visited the desert frequently growing up, and always wanted a house there. In addition to an indoor/outdoor open feeling, he wanted to see water from every vantage point in the house.   “This is why we not only have the backyard patio that pockets neatly into the fireplace and kitchen, but have created the entryway courtyard, which is really a very large pond. From anywhe... More

Segda Seat & Coffee Table by Nüvist

There are lines everywhere. Jupiter's ring and comet tails are visible in space. With trees and flowers in the background. In the water, with the waves, and even with the calligraphies created by humans.  We were motivated by calligraphic lines and tried to turn them into a three-dimensional functional shape. As a result, we've designed a calligraphic loop line we've named loop signature. Then we used some design manipulations to add functionality to key areas like the sitting section and the leg rest. We also wanted to provide both context and usefulness. There is no front or back to this design since there is no starting or finishing point for a loop. This simply means that you can sit on both the front and rear sides. It's d... More

Trestle Apartments

Claiming its name from the type of supporting framework used in railroad construction, Trestle Apartments is a new 28,601 square-foot residential development consisting of 202 units—six, three-floor residential buildings and two, two-floor retail buildings. Trestle sits on the larger campus of the San Carlos Transit Village, a mixed-use development designed around the San Carlos Caltrain station. The site was originally designed and contracted under Christiani Johnson Architects (CJA), which continued when CJA joined Alameda-based MBH Architects. For the housing and retail component of the mixed-use development, MBH created a TOD (transit-oriented development) at the station while preserving the historic train depot.  Caption... More

Park Slope Townhouse

This new construction, five-story townhouse is home to a young family of four. The front façade combines brick, speaking to the neighbors, a cedar rainscreen, and black aluminum panels. Maintaining an indoor-outdoor connection throughout was important to the clients, so despite the narrow 25-foot lot, balconies and terraces open each floor up to exterior spaces. Resolution: 4 Architecture The lower garden level houses a mudroom, guest bedroom and playroom that open onto the backyard, where turf tiles create a maintenance-free lawn and weathering steel bamboo planters provide privacy. An exterior stair connects the yard to a dining terrace that opens to a double height living space on the main level. Resolution: 4 Architectur... More

Hudson River House

After living in Manhattan for decades, the owners sought to trade the confines of city living for a site with sweeping views of the Hudson River. They wanted a compact home that was as extraordinary as the vista it offered, equipped with just enough space for two. Emily Andrews The site is entered via a winding gravel drive through meadow grasses and lilacs up to a framed view of the Hudson River through the carport. The lightness and reflectivity of the façade enhance the reading of a hovering volume in the sky, resting on just a few thin steel columns. Located on one of the town’s highest overlooks, the house was conceived around maximizing panoramic views of the town and river below via floor-to-ceiling windows across... More
