Introspective House

The building’s structure is composed of 5 volumes connected by a common allure. This is done to ensure maximum privacy for each family member: 8 people from different generations will live here at the same time. Caption Caption Caption The functionality of each volume is seen in the architectural design: the blocks with the cantilevered roofs, the characteristic of the Kerimov Architects signature, are for residential areas; and the flat ones are for the volumes of a common living room and SPA. Caption Caption Caption All viewpoints face the inner courtyard to hide from the c from prying eyes in a densely built villa community; and a forest. The entire logic of space and orientation of volumes is subord... More

Hutton Drive 2641

The Site  As hillside design specialists, the Whipple Russell team sometimes finds it necessary to move mountains – or at least part of one, in order to create a spacious yet intimate modern home. To accomplish these goals for our Hutton house, we first cut into the rear hillside to maximize backyard living space and to site the house further from the street in the front. At the back of the property two porcelain stone retaining walls create a balcony lounge area with a fire pit and greenery overlooking the saltwater pool, spa, and the entire property including multiple firepits, and an outdoor kitchen/bar. An Ipe wood walkway bridge leads from this upper seating into the primary suite.  Adam Latham Adam Latham F... More

Hillside Modern

Modern forms create a striking visual against the rural landscape in our Hillside Modern. A key feature? It is built into the hillside, so from a front entry perspective, it is subdued or almost hidden.  JMAD JMAD JMAD JMAD The back is revealed as a stately, two-level space with a walkout basement overlooking a scenic wetland area. This creates spaces for our clients to host parties and have guests over.  JMAD JMAD JMAD JMAD We designed water features throughout for visual aesthetics – but audible comfort as well. So, if you’re working in your kitchen, you can open the window and hear the sound of water. JMAD JMAD JMAD JMAD The pool is elevated at main leve... More

Modern on the Prairie

We named this home Modern on the Prairie. Certainly, Pa Ingalls didn’t design this one. We designed it in a Modern architectural spacial design by using vertical and horizontal planes to create the spaces. No post and beams or headers. Its flat roof helps further expresses the planes. There -are- some classical elements to it: it’s symmetrical and the forms create the space vs random  arrangements made in some modern architecture.  Spacecrafting Photography Spacecrafting Photography Spacecrafting Photography Spacecrafting Photography Spacecrafting Photography Our Modern on the Prairie has the feel of a classical home with how the forms were arranged but is oh, so modern. We also designed the f... More

Modern European

Situated on a large, private lot with wooded areas and water views called for a home that would embrace the land. In our Modern European home, we wanted to capture the beautiful views of the setting. Architecturally, the sequence and the volume changes of the individual spaces make it more interesting as you approach the house and walk through it. The resulting Modern European home, with a nod to traditional English Tudor homes, does just that. Landmark Photography Landmark Photography Topo LLC It has the massing of an English Tudor, the steep roofs and that stately feel, but it’s stripped down from other details like timber framing and other ornamentation. Large black metal windows, some stretching almost floor to cei... More

Three Trees

A house built around three trees. Rather than cutting down any trees on the lot, we built this house around them, enclosing them into open air courtyards. Every room in the house opens out into an outdoor space with a sheltering tree.  Jeremy Levine The design plays on the idea of a ‘Regional Modernism’ by merging two of the local architectural styles of the region: the thick walls and courtyards of the Spanish Colonial style and the exposed structure and open plan and glass walls of the California Case Study homes. Tom Bonner This is a zero-energy Passive House that produces its own solar power, heats water with solar hot water system, recycles grey water and captures rain water. Caption Sustainable Featu... Modern Home on a Mountain Vineyard

In the heart of a vineyard, nestled on the side of a mountain near Sonoma, California, Bjella Architecture has fused a home and boutique winery together into a bold, modern design that is warm and inviting, yet exhibits an industrial edge fitting to its purpose. For the family, it is a home and a lifestyle that are inseparable. Tim Bjella Tim Bjella Tim Bjella Tim Bjella Inspired by the earth it rests upon, the exterior of the home draws its color palette from the rich hues of the vineyard soils and local rock outcroppings. The stone and stucco materials link the home with the land, reinforcing the home’s sense of place. The stone seamlessly flows inside where earthy concrete floors, Merlot wine-stained cabinetry,... Poli House

Our team’s main goal in developing the «Poli House» architectural project was to harmoniously blend the house's architecture with the surrounding environment. Stone, wood, and glass are the primary materials used in this house’s exterior and interior design. Andrii Shurpenkov The whole project of the house can be described as a small private complex consisting of three buildings - the main house, a guest house, and a gazebo. When designing, the Bezmirno team connected all zones into a common structure, in a single style. Andrii Shurpenkov The use of panoramic windows unites cutting off the barrier between the exterior and interior space, making it a single whole. Most of the rooms are oriented towards the... More

Casa Lioz

Casa Lioz is located on sloping land, at the top of a hill, with an outstanding view of an estuary and the outline of the golden cliffs that border the bay of Lagos. To the north, the view extends to the outline of a mountain range and the green fields in between. Through an organic path of ramps and steps, the entrance of the house is reached.  This path is made up of different levels and floors, interspersed with various patios, different shapes and a surprising luminosity which varies throughout the day.  This light is sometimes reflected, absorbed by the marble roughness that partially covers the building, whose weight contrasts with the brightness of the white that covers many volumes that make up this house. © Ferna... Easter house in Domodedovo

he house is located in the south of the Moscow region in the Domodedovo district. The customers are a young creative family whose hobbies include traveling. This is clearly visible by the Easter Island statue greeting guests and passers-by at the entrance. The reduced copy of the statue is placed not only as an outrageous detail of the entrance group, but also as a visual boundary along the site and at the same time an architectural dominant uniting neighbors. Hurtin Vasiliy The main house is located in a pine forest on a plot having an elongated shape with a length of 68 by 14 meters. This determined the location and shape of all the buildings of the garage, the main house, the barbecue area and the gazebo at the end of the plot, whi... More

Serenity

The desert is open space and long views, but also the close-up, detailed perfection of the cactus flower. It is nature’s serene minimalism. This is the setting for our project inside the gated community of The Vintage in Indian Wells, California. William MacCollum This project involved deep creative collaboration with the clients, who partnered with architect Marc Whipple and the W^R team on every aspect of the interior design, and personally curated or co-designed each of the many art pieces throughout the house. With a passion for racing and cars, and also for collecting fine wines, the program was going to include dazzling and innovative displays that would be both highly visible and striking artistic statements. This house... More

Georgina Avenue

William MacCollum   What first greets the visitor to this Santa Monica, CA house is the generous front setback and landscape design by Z Freedman Landscape Architecture. A lighted series of steps lead up around a soft bed of fescue grass, and mature sycamore tree, past a stand of saplings. John Fox   Black textured Basalt stone tile from Norstone USA frames the entrance. William MacCollum William MacCollum   This project was an opportunity for our client and Marc Whipple to enter into a true collaborative adventure. Julie Cantor had in mind for years a modern take on a NYC loft space with an open volume, skylights, and very little strict division between rooms. A friend thought that sounded like a hou... More

Casa LB - Llanquihue

The project consists of enhancing the environment in an area where it rains much of the year, which is why large windows are proposed that frame the different landmarks and that connect the individual with nature without having the need to go out to a terrace. Thanks to the topography of the land, we can have a great panoramic view of the lagoon and the adjoining fields, also delivering illuminated interiors. More
