Jod Schwefelbad bathhouse pays homage to the healing power of natural springs

Located in Bad Wiesse, a famous health resort on Lake Tegernsee in Southern Germany, Jod Schwefelbad by Matteo Thun & Partners is a new bathhouse that pays homage to the healing power of natural springs. Embedded in the landscape that surrounds, the design is informed by research indicating that people regenerate much faster and more sustainably in a pleasant environment with a connection to greenspace. Jens Weber The form of the building itself results from a carefully orchestrated progression of room sequences – from the most public to the very private. From the street to the forecourt, the entree, the atrium, the bathing cabin and finally the cabin’s private terrace. Jens Weber As one progresses through the bu... More

De Zalmhaven toren

The Zalmhaven is the new eye-catcher on the Rotterdam skyline. With 215 meters, this will be the highest residential tower in the Benelux. Two flanking towers (by KAAN Architecten) form a visual staircase to the lower Scheepvaartkwartier.  For this ambitious project, much attention has been paid to the relationship with the environment and the liveliness at ground level. On the urban scale, the high tower acts as a connecting element between the Scheepvaartkwartier and the Kop van Zuid, between the north and south side of the city. In this way, the focus of the city is shifted towards the water.  The style of the architecture and the character of the building are in line with the existing buildings of the area. The design is ins... More

CAFE D01 - Drekka

The second Drekka cafe and shop in Sofia opened in late 2020 in the middle of times of chaos and global pandemic. Situated in the historic center of the city, on a quiet street, it is a conversion of an old cigars shop lined with its heavy leather coverings and walnut wall panels. The design transforms the space into a bright and colorful street pocket that opens to the pedestrian traffic with its sliding folding facade system. The Drekka cyan is the focal point of a color palette full of bespoke details in pale pink (the shelving), marble (the community table) and cement (the counter). The main challenge in the project was to open the shop in the short space of 4 weeks while overseeing a total interior overhaul on a shoestring budget of 50... More

UT41

This expansive residential home in Camps Bay fulfils a brief for a large family house to be split over 4 levels, each serving a unique function as per the clients request. The design consists of a combination of vertical and horizontal elements with 2 ‘floating’ roofs above. The main vertical element is the tiled feature wall which creates a buffer to the dominant Southeaster wind as well as privacy to the next-door neighbor. The feature wall is disconnected from the rest of the house by a 2 storey high window and skylight. By doing so the living room on first floor gets maximum daylight but not direct sun due to clever positioning of various overhangs and use of performance glass and results in immaculate views of Camps Bay bea... IL FRANTOIO

The project was realized on an extensive plot of land full of old olive trees near the little town of Arco, which is not far from the northern shore of Lake Garda. The entire region is world-famous for its Mediterranean microclimate and the excellent olive oil produced here.  It is therefore not surprising that the owner’s initial idea was to construct his own oil press – “frantoio” in Italian – in the middle of the olive grove. Ultimately, however, it was decided to replace two agricultural storehouses with a new high-quality building that combines tasting rooms for the oil produced by the owner himself and regional specialities like wine and cheese, as well as storage rooms. However, since a historical... More

Avantgarde Collectıon Taksim Square Otel

Avantgarde Collection Taksim Square Hotel, designed by Kreatif Mimarlik, is proposed in place of the structurally vulnerable building in the city center to fulfill short-term accommodation needs as a boutique city hotel with its 59 rooms. A modest architectural look is appropriated for the project that establishes a relation with the current neighboring buildings that defines the Taksim Square. The narrow façade with vertical lines, which seems to solemnly stand for over a long period, is enhanced with the expansion of the rooms via cantilevers and upgraded viewpoints. The façade is covered with Green Logo certificated self-cleaning materials of Japan Inax Company, which was founded by the partnership of Frank Lloyd Wright in 1924. The faça... More
