The Ukrainian city of Dnipro has opened a renovated Uspenska Square, one of the oldest squares in the city. It was established more than 200 years ago. Dnipro is now an industrial city with over a million dwellers located 100 kilometers from the front line of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The reconstruction of Uspenska Square began in 2021, with 80% of the work completed, but in February 2022, the construction was forced to stop due to the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. But despite the ongoing war, the city is still trying to live: IDPs are coming here, and residents who left the city are returning. The 30-acre Natura Gardens incorporates 10 acres of restored wetlands, striking a delicate balance between community needs and environmental responsibility. The restored wetlands became an opportunity to demonstrate how communities can serve as the custodians of scarce environmental resources. The site plan integrates the wetlands so residents can experience the seasonal changes of this essential ecosystem. CAA is responsible for the planning and architectural design of the whole project. The area around Vilnius Plaza is a mixed use development situated in Lithuania’s capital city. The development area enjoys direct visual links across the Nerris River to the Gediminas Castle Tower, one of Vilnius’ main historical attractions. To the south, the development abuts the Plaza to Vilnius Cathedral. The site, during the soviet era, was home to the City’s main football stadium which has since become unused and derelict. The residential area to the north with its tightly-knit pedestrian network connects the site back into the Šnipiškės neighborhood. The Bergen Light Rail is the first public transport system in Norway to utilise inclusive design at all levels, making the city accessible for everyone.   Bergen, on the west coast of Norway, is the country’s second largest city. The Bybanen Light Rail project constitutes the major component of the city’s 20 year investment programme to develop its public transport infrastructure and create a more sustainable network.   The scheme comprises a 7.2km extension to the existing railway line connecting Lagunen to Bergen Airport. The striking design of Pulkovo Airport’s new terminal reflects St Petersburg’s unique culture and environment, creating a landmark gateway to the city.   The award-winning terminal at Pulkovo International airport is the result of a collaborative relationship between Pascall+Watson, Grimshaw Architects and Ramboll.   Located close to the arctic circle, the extremes of the Russian winter posed some particularly interesting challenges for the design team. Terminal 2 forms the centrepiece of Dublin Airports’ extensive five-year investment programme.   The comprehensive masterplan Pascall+Watson created for Dublin Airport in 2005 considered over 100 individual projects. The new concourse and piazza create a dynamic addition to London Bridge Quarter.   As Europe’s tallest building, The Shard has dramatically changed London’s skyline. A crucial part of the scheme centred around creating efficient connectivity to the adjacent London Bridge railway station. A collaboration between Pascall+Watson and Renzo Piano Building Workshop was established to address this issue.   The development introduces a station approach via a generous tree-lined piazza accommodating a bus station, passenger set-down areas and taxi zones.
