Palm Medi

Less furnitures, air and sunlight will be free to get in. Less materials, their value are shown up. It's  balance in space.A 70m2 apartment with two bedrooms is located in Hochiminh city, Vietnam. This apartment building was built on an old palm forest beside the big city. It is a raw handing over apartment, but It's original plan was excellent designed with two balconies which created a huge flow for wind to get in and out of the space. In oder to keep the good air and sunlight, we aim to use as less furniture as possible. So, we could have more attention to details and usage of each items. Casa VF

Casa VF was born on a hill surrounded by olive trees and vineyards near the city of Scicli, in the countryside of the Val di Noto: a landscape characterized by the fluid sinuosity of the hills that slope down to the sea. The house opens the view on the Mediterranean Sea and develops as a stratification of two volumes, a rectangular one which forms the ground floor and the other characterized by a triangular stratum which instead hosts the first floor. The arrangement of the volumes responds to the distribution of the housing program: the lower layer houses the living area, the kitchen, the living room and the bedrooms; the upper one, on the other hand, represents a more intimate area, an outbuilding with bedroom and bathroom and a large ter... Naturally

Naturally project is born in a villa located in an area bordered by the mountains: a refined dialogue between style and natural material. The flat, located on the ground floor of a family building with directly facing to large garden and swimming pool, was in excellent condition, but not in line with the new needs of living. The complete restructuring was based on the realization of a project re-evaluating the internal layout through the re-definition of the living and sleeping area, optimizing not only the spaces but also the energy efficiency. The choice of resin flooring as an element of stylistic unity, underlines that there is no direct relationship between place and style, avoiding a hierarchy between noble points and places of service... A LITTLE BIG HOME

How to make great a small business almost sewed to the ground, bound by a thousand urban constraints, by the laces and the straps imposed by the presence, once cumbersome, of the neighbors who live a few meters away?Only 110 square meters in plan, un imperative: to find the right size and the indispensable privacy, a fundamental condition for living at home. Already from the entrance gate you can sense the personality of this house that comes back to new life: the stone, the metal and the fixtures with absolutely essential lines, give the sense of a stylistic rigor that we will find inside; just some simple and aggressive element that denotes a tastefully conducted research. The external paving is in columbine stone with a Carrara marble bo... More

Monumental loft canal, Amsterdam

The space is located in a 17th century monumental canal house in the center of Amsterdam. It is now used as a guesthouse of approximately 90m² that is connected the upper house of 180m².It is an open space with a high ceiling. We build a white between floor with a sculptural staircase where various functions as the guest bed, movie wall, pantry and toilet have been processed in. The wooden unit contains a Jacuzzi and desk. All these functions are organically connected through level differences and several stairs, whereby the room can playfully be discovered. The rooms’ atmosphere is defined by the old masonry and the heavy floor joists on the ceiling. The modern sculptural movement of the between floor and the staircase emphas... More

The Crows Nest

AR Design Studio was approached by the clients who were looking to extend their holiday home on a cliff top on the South Coast. During the planning process, and following the unprecedented rainfall during the winter of 2014, there was subsidence close to the house and the decision was made to replace it entirely.   AR Design Studio was then tasked with designing a completely new home; the idea of movement and fracturing formed the backbone of the concept. Working closely with engineers Eckersley O’Callaghan, an imaginative structural solution was proposed to prevent future failure. A concrete slab was built into the ground, a series of strategically placed dwarf walls were then built on top of it. A floating structural frame wa... More

Vertical House

Located on one of the few lots in Dallas elevated enough to enjoy a view of the downtown skyline, the five-story Vertical House rises dramatically above the treetops to capture views of the surrounding gardens and the skyline beyond. Characterized by clean lines, sheer glass walls, and sculptural sun shades, this sharply-detailed house offers an intriguing counterpoint to the tropical ambiance of its forest-like setting. The client, an avid collector of exotic plants, wanted a house that would not only maximize views of the site, but also maintain privacy from neighboring properties. In response, the house was conceived as two interlocking, contrasting volumes: one half is transparent and oriented toward views of the... More

THE GRACEFUL HOUSE

It is “polite architecture” in the historic center of a medieval town, a major restructuring that takes a contemporary language, while continuing to communicate with the historic location. The main facade is decorated with a backdrop and holding up the stairwell outside main entrance: a giant slab of marble structured and supported with stainless steel and carved with a decoration laser to get a good transparency. The scale is purposely distanced from architecture thanks to steel spacers that hold the step in monolithic marble, accentuated by the lighting system that highlights also the perforations of the backdrop. The balcony railings are contrasted with the lightness of the glass plates and the materiality of wrought iron. The compartm... More

Residential area Waterrijk, Meerhoven

Waterrijk will become a green, scenic residential neighbourhood with approximately 1,450 homes. The neighbourhood sits snugly between the new park Meerland to the north, the Parkforum to the west and the new districts of Veldhoven to the south and east. Waterrijk is the latest residential development in the VINEX district of Meerhoven. In the Masterplan for Waterrijk, designed by Architecture Studio Herman Herzberger in association with Juurlink & Geluk, urban zones play predominantly and contain all the neighbourhood amenities. Scenic zones of the plan are embedded into the existing green structure. The existing "forest camouflage" around the former army training terrain and the existing mature trees contribute to Waterrijk’s greennes... More

OVERLAPPED VOLUMES

A restructuring that takes life from the roots of the building: a symbiosis between the different elements and an inspiration to the basic lines makes the project a harmonious blend of materials and shapes. First floor stands out as the bough of a tree differs from the trunk, solid and massive, represented here by the ground floor of the building, entirely covered by stone. An overlap of the volumes and interlacing of lines differ the upper part from the lower. The first is developed vertically, thanks to the precise lines and sparse openings and the second is connected to the ground with the horizontal, fragmentary lines and discontinuous material. Large windows capture the natural surroundings, blending with the vegetation and integrating... More
