Casa VF was born on a hill surrounded by olive trees and vineyards near the city of Scicli, in the countryside of the Val di Noto: a landscape characterized by the fluid sinuosity of the hills that slope down to the sea. The house opens the view on the Mediterranean Sea and develops as a stratification of two volumes, a rectangular one which forms the ground floor and the other characterized by a triangular stratum which instead hosts the first floor. The arrangement of the volumes responds to the distribution of the housing program: the lower layer houses the living area, the kitchen, the living room and the bedrooms; the upper one, on the other hand, represents a more intimate area, an outbuilding with bedroom and bathroom and a large terrace that opens the view to the south, which is accessed via an external sheet metal staircase.
The white facades and the predominance of the wall mass over the gaps in the openings are inspired by typical Mediterranean architecture. The intent of the project, since its genesis, was in fact to create a contemporary house, with a minimalist style. This vision, accompanied by the desire not to give up the identity of the place, characterized by rural houses with pitched roofs and tiled roofs, has led to the revisiting of the pitched roof in a contemporary key, thus taking up the peculiarities of the Hyblean territory. The tile, a typical expression of the Sciclitana residence has been reinterpreted here, with new continuous and full surfaces typical of the Mediterranean house. In order to achieve this design element, special materials have been used, consisting of resins that guarantee perfect waterproofing.
Casa VF externally is characterized by an innovative lighting system designed to be integrate perfectly with the architecture: Fylo, capable of creating effects of totally recessed luminous grooves. The use of EPS, a material coated with special resins, has allowed us to create ultra-light and elegant linear profiles. These were used in two ways, both on the wall and on the ceiling, and allowed to obtain pure lighting, without the visible presence of the lamp body, to perceive only and exclusively the light beam. The installation was carried out outdoors, through special treatments, in the external coating system, without losing insulation performance.
