It certainly makes for an interesting start to a project, to already be part of a building’s past while designing for its future. ‘Bellevue Hill House V’ marks the second time that PopovBass has redesigned this house. The first time was in 1996 and the brief was vastly different. The original residence simultaneously functioned as a private art gallery designed for clients who were art collectors. A large central ‘gallery’ living space was used to display the client’s extensive art collection: dramatically lit from above through a massive skylight. The designer of this project believes that the key to achieving a comfortable living space is to keep things simple. His clear-minded approach to transforming the dated and inefficient interiors of this 27-year-old three-storey intermediate terrace home in the east of Singapore is evident. The once dark and claustrophobic walled-in spaces on the ground level have been replaced by a series of open plan zones dressed in a controlled colour scheme that takes advantage of the existing height and depth of the space. Renovation of an existing pharmacy, with the new parts of the pharmacy connecting to the old parts. The pharmacy has been completely redesigned. The Bataafse Kamp, a characteristic school building in the centre of Hengelo from the post-war reconstruction period, is being transformed by Space&Matter into sustainable Park Homes organised around a collective courtyard. The redesign of the building and the adjacent park enhances appealing qualities and adds new functions. Together, they form an interwoven ensemble, combining clean lines with soft vegetation, living in a heritage building with nature. Through an extensive restoration, Picco Architetti has transformed a former nineteenth-century college on the outskirts of Turin. Built by San Giovanni Bosco back in 1870, today the building consists of four floors and accommodates a hundred beds.The ceramic collection Code, Taupe color, shows its high affinity with the architectural rhythm of the structure. The economic crisis and changes in the property market have left many office buildings vacant. The government wants to renovate or transform these buildings, or replace them with dwellings, shops and other amenities. One such vacant building is the former Tax Office. The redesign of the interior of AGBU’s Vahe Karapetyan Building, isn’t merely limited to the design of the interior because we incorporated functional elements and tried to connect key functionalities of the interior to the exterior. Thus, we created external walkways that are attached to the building. This first one connects the first floor to the second to create a direct connection from reception area to exhibition room. The second one connects the second floor to the third, thus connecting the exhibition room to the auditorium. This is how we imagined connecting the exterior of the building of the interior. Twickenham Stadium, the home of English rugby,was looking to upgrade the customer experience at its food and beverage retail offers in order to be truly world-class across all areas of its offer in time for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, which England is set to host after winning the 2009 selection bid.
