Raw concrete, brick, timber, metal and light formed the underlying material pallet from our clients previous lives in a Manhattan loft. Through a series of structural alterations this Victorian property in Peckham, South London was extended at ground floor and opened out to form an elegant and light filled space enhanced by exposing and expressing the construction materials that are usually hidden or covered. Whilst the front of Horsefield House incorporates large and spacious vertical sash windows, typically found in many Victorian properties, the rear space failed to coincide with this light and airy atmosphere. Therefore it was important for the series of back rooms with limited use, to be transformed into a sequence of spaces that reflected this popular Victorian style, both in terms of lighting as well as scale and function. 1950’s bungalow transforms into RIBA award-winning Knitters Cottage Knitters House is a RIBA award-winning project by Sheffield-based CE+C architects. The brief was to transform an aging 1950’s bungalow into a modern contemporary dwelling, with interconnecting light-filled spaces. The renovation of a North London Property involved repurposing the existing floor plans in order to incorporate a large open kitchen and dining space. This included the installation of two Flushglaze fixed rooflights. Management of natural and artificial light With such a large space, the challenge here was to make the extension feel as homely as possible; the careful management of light throughout the project helped to achieve a balance of comfort and style. Private Property, Richmond Park This period house backing onto Richmond Park needed the existing conservatory replaced at the rear of the property. 2PM Architects design for the extension includes a new living space, dining area, bespoke kitchen and a children’s play space. Each of the spaces is carefully planned and filled with natural light through the positioning of 2 super sized frameless glass roof lights. Amazing old school conversion to a beautiful light loft. In the Blankenstraat in Amsterdam the former public primary school transformed into loft appartments and offices. The large windows and high ceiling bring a feeling of space and light. For even more space the owners made the rooftop accessible and created a wonderful rooftop garden with nice views over Amsterdam. They used an enormous sleek, low-profile hinged opening skylight for easy access to the rooftop of this Amsterdam loft. This ambitious project in Scheveningen was not only to enlarge the traditional townhouse, but also to create a comfortable climate in house with natural ventilation and high levels of insulation. With an extra floor added to the house, the family got a lot of extra space in m2 for new rooms. But the upgrading was also meant to improve the energylabel of the house from E to A. The proposed works involve major alterations to the existing house. The ambition is to transform the existing property into an energy-efficient, contemporary house re-using as much of the original two-storey structure as possible. After careful mapping of the surrounding garden, it was clear the fall of the topography over the site could be used to embed the dwelling into the landscape, giving the dwelling associated thermal and aesthetic benefits.
