I MIRADOR

On the seventh and eighth floor of the new hotel 21 House of Stories Navigli is I MIRADOR, two squares suspended over the city. Inspired by the Spanish word mirador, we designed a space where people can enjoy a panoramic view of Milan.  The terrace on the seventh floor hosts a swimming pool, a lounge area, a cocktail bar and a long high table through which people can enjoy the splendid view. Michele Nastasi Michele Nastasi Michele Nastasi The water, emphasised by the reflective surfaces of the bar counter and the pool, the combination of hand-decorated ceramics, graphics, shades of blue, and the lush vegetation give a 'Mediterranean' touch to the design. One can sit by the pool on cushions or cosy daybeds, upholstered i... More

800 Fulton embodies SOM’s legacy of structurally expressive architecture

The 19-story mixed use building is defined by external steel brace frames. The x-braced facade marks the entrance along the west elevation. They are engineered by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, with Chicago’s harsh winters in mind, to withstand 9 inches of thermal movement and resist heavy wind loads. Dave Burk The building sits in a transition zone between the low-scale Fulton Market Street and the higher-density commercial district. The volume bridges the two different scales by rising from a 3-story podium in stepped terraces towards the commercial towers. Dave Burk A series of setbacks form landscaped terraces with native plants and trees on every other floor. On the 18th and 19th floor workers can enjoy panoramic cit... More

OKAH Rootop & Restaurant

Located in the city center of Lisbon, Portugal, but only 50meters from the Tagus River the OKAH rooftop is inserted in an unexplored ancient port area. The challenge presented consisted in creating a rooftop that matched the LACS building essence – a modern and creative hub that combines an artistic soul and a cultural stronghold where forward-thinking creative businesses go to thrive.  In order to immerse in the landscape language MC-A designed, created and supervised the installation process of 16 modified maritime containers. The project encompasses a 100 seats restaurant, 50 seats lounge with 2 themed bars and a 200 people concerts area which, alternatively, may be used as an art exhibition venue. This with a 360º degre... More

Lofts at Mercer Landing

Overlooking the stadium at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, you will find an expansive roof top recreation area atop a university housing complex. The expansive recreational roof deck common area was completed with Duradek Heritage Agate with cool roof qualities. Applied with adhesives, the 6 ft widths of vinyl sheets were heat welded for a completely water-tight seal. Duradek is installed only by applicators that are trained in the techniques required to integrate the membrane into the building envelope. The 10,000 sq. ft. rooftop terrace is a highly used outdoor amenity for The Lofts student housing so shutting down access for maintenance is a troublesome prospect. With Duradek™, maintenance is minimal and requires no recoating... More

320 Plummer

You may not have heard of Ebenezer Howard, but visit our new multi-residential project in Port Melbourne and you can see his legacy come to life. In the 19th century, Howard drew up concepts for a ‘garden city’, urban pockets with plenty of green space clustered around the city centres to help evenly distribute density. With P.M. we’ve picked up where he left off, creating a 21st century garden city in resort form, which will anchor Port Melbourne’s future. Three buildings grace the landscaped grounds. The P.M. building is the tallest of all three, a slender, sculptural structure with wrap around flesh glazing covered in white lace. Anchoring the corner of the site, the twisting form is followed by the two billowing... More
