Concrete Villa

Located in Ravels, Belgium, Concrete Villa is a contemporary single-family residence that explores how exposed concrete can serve not only as a structural solution, but as a climate-responsive and enduring architectural strategy. Conceived as a restrained, L-shaped volume, the house balances solidity with openness, privacy with connection, and permanence with everyday comfort. Aperture 8.6   Site strategy and spatial orientation Set within a quiet residential context, the villa is positioned to form a sheltered courtyard defined by its L-shaped plan. This configuration protects the outdoor space from prevailing winds while opening the primary living areas to optimal daylight. The courtyard becomes an extension of the interior w... More

Casa do Engenho

Set within an agricultural estate in Vila Nova de Gaia, characterised by gentle slopes, the “Casa do Engenho” forms part of a built ensemble dating back to the early 18th century, comprising the main residence, cultivation areas, threshing floor, wells — one of them the old engenho — and several small ancillary buildings. This secondary volume, originally intended to host family gatherings and celebrations, had a rigid and compartmentalised layout that limited its functionality and everyday use. Casa D

This residential transformation project reinterprets a 1960s house through a careful strategy of structural reuse, volumetric clarity, and spatial densification. Situated on a corner plot within a heterogeneous urban fabric of varying building scales and typologies, the intervention preserves the footprint and foundational concrete frame of the existing house while extending vertically with a lightweight steel structure engineered to withstand seismic loads. Giorgos Sfakianakis The architectural language is defined by a sculptural massing of opaque facades and calibrated openings. Responding to the proximity of taller neighboring buildings and the challenge of privacy, the house assumes a monolithic presence. To mediate light and spat... More

BÂTIMENT F

House by the Lake "Yes, that's what you'd like: a villa in the green with a large terrace, the Baltic Sea in front, Friedrichstrasse behind: with a beautiful view, rural chic, and from the bathroom, you can see the Zugspitze – but in the evening, you're not far from the cinema..." wrote Kurt Tucholsky in Berlin in 1927 in his humorous poem "Ideal and Reality," concluding with "Every happiness has a catch. We want so much: to have. To be. And to matter. That someone has it all: that is rare." Kurt Hörbst Kurt Hörbst Of course, we're not by the sea, but almost. The lake view from the first floor is breathtaking. In the foreground, sailboats sway in the harbor, in the background, the kitschy blue Attersee and the mo... More

Santa Monica Courtyard Houses

“Title 24” (California’s Building Energy Efficiency Standards) inspired the design of the net-zero homes. We see the state’s recently implemented code as an opportunity to reinvent the Southern California single family dwelling. While a midcentury Case Study-type glass house is still possible under Title 24, that home would require high embodied energy materials and consume lots of power, undermining the Energy Standards’ aims. Instead, the Santa Monica Courtyard Houses assume a different look and feel that is more suitable to current climate conditions. Having far fewer windows, the outside form reduces the amount of heat gain and lowers energy use while still allowing residents to enjoy indoor-outdoor living... More

Trinary Life Villa

Architecture and nature walked into the same direction to create a calm atmosphere. Caption A space that embraces the sea breeze, which is passed toward the green area and cold water, so that a cool breeze flows inside it and a few moments of silence and passing through the smokey skyscrapers, hustle and bustle of the city and staring at the horizon of the Persian Gulf. In shaping this form, first the pen moves on the lines of nature and creates the area, in the next step, according to the natural factors (vision, wind, light and access), were oriented . Atrium House

DESCRIPTION  Atrium house was a response to our Client’s brief for a house of modern simplicity and good space. The architectural design of the house was based on the desire to celebrate spaciousness and create meaningful spatial relationships. The central atrium became the anchor for the house, connecting it with all the living spaces from the first to the highest level. The idea of a punctuation echoed to the façade with a patterned perforation that allowed greenery to climb and peek into the interiors of the house.    CONCEPT The first level presented the living room as a spacious space. A lighted walkway connects the living to the open island kitchen at the back of the house. Our Clients loved these space... More

casa VRRD

A house as a child would design it: the slope of the roof allows a strong verticalisation of the rooms, whose space physically penetrates the inclination of the roof through large openings to the outside. The dominant white color works as a three-dimensional sheet of paper, where you can play with the alternation between small and large, between outside and inside, between the sky and the large garden in the back where the ground floor opens. Casa 3

This singular house is located in an amphitheatre-shaped site, which opens towards the city and its surrounding hilltops.   Located at the Southeast of Caracas, is set on a plot of approximately 3,500 square meters. The architectural design stresses the concepts of lightness and transparency, reaffirmed in a compact model of vertical development.   The house which has three upper levels and a basement, sits on the highest part of the plot, developing a functional pattern defined by its external visuals. Both pedestrian and vehicular access goes through the surrounding wall by two huge gates.   After crossing the wooden main door, we can visualize the vast social areas of the house, and the wide panoramic windows that d...
