arirang dowon

Arirang Dowon: Born at the Boundary of the Ordinary and the Extraordinary When we first located the land at "603 Tongsam-ri," we began to contemplate. If someone were to visit this place during an ordinary day, how could we spatially express the boundary between the ordinary and the extraordinary? Caption Arirang Dowon is situated on a seemingly ordinary road, appearing from the outside as an unremarkable, factory-like building. However, the moment one steps inside, an entirely different world unfolds. To emphasize this moment of transition, we designed a water wall on the front façade. The flow of water serves as a boundary between the ordinary and the extraordinary, offering visitors a visual delight and a sense of calm.... More

502 Coffee Roasters

The space flourishes and becomes clear and rich when various elements within it establish relationships and are visualized. While subjective, finding the expected comfort in places commonly referred to as large cafes can be challenging when visited in person. This difficulty stems from the absence of relationships among elements in the space and the lack of purpose. Kim Donggyu Kim Donggyu 502 Coffee Roasters, a key player in the start of the Korean specialty coffee market since 2009, expanded its existing cafe and roastery center to a new location in Nangok-ri, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. confier

The contemporary Korean-French fine dining restaurant, "Confier," already well-known for its exceptional cuisine and performances in Dosan Park, has recently opened its doors near Seoul Station. Kim Donggyu Kim Donggyu Kim Donggyu Stof focused on applying and visualizing Confier's perspective on gastronomy, which seeks to "experience new tastes and visual food, showcasing the process of food becoming a work of art," within the spatial sequences. In theater, the virtual wall between the audience and the stage is referred to as the "fourth wall," and when the boundaries between the audience and the stage blur, it's called "breaking the fourth wall." With this concept, Stof aimed to encapsulate the creation of beautiful cuisine... More

25 best architecture firms in South Korea

Architecture in South Korea is distinguished by its disposition towards naturalism, simplicity and streamlined forms. Historically, South Korea's architectural landscape evolved under the influence of its neighbouring countries, particularly Japan and China, but also bore the imprint of its unique cultural identity. The nation’s tumultuous history, marked by cycles of construction and destruction, has left a lasting mark on its architecture, resulting in a juxtaposition of diverse styles and forms.  While traditional Korean architecture was notable for its deep-rooted connection with nature, contemporary architecture in South Korea embraces technology and experimentation. The last few decades witnessed rapid economic development... More

Nevertheless, it is too difficult to gather all potential occupants so as for them to build a house by reflecting all opinions and needs of themselves. Particularly, any house where many families gather to live in downtown must be built as a multi-household housing type which is commonly called a “villa” in Korea. These houses often boil down to monotonous buildings by the land size, circumstances, or construction cost. stay_soar

Stay_Soar is a multi-family housing project in Yangjaecheon Cafe Street. A total of 13 units were arranged in this volume of 286.81m2, including 12 residential units and one retail on the first floor. This was possible because the area of common use space in a typical floor plan was reduced to minimum by incorporating the skip floor layout. We tried to reveal the skip floor structure to the outside through the outline of the mass and the arrangement of the windows. An important element that determines the impression of this building is the movement in the border where the upper part covered with white shell meets with the lower part exposed with the frame structure. This is also the result of moving along the building composition of skip fl... More

FLOATING CUBES

Facing a reservoir built to store agricultural water, the site is recovering its primitive landscape day by day and trying to resemble a natural lake. This place might have formed a natural boundary with waters along a slope. But one day, humans hands found the place, and they cut paths through it and laid out stone walls along these paths to impose a hierarchy on the land. Inevitably, however, a development rush that can be commonly found in any suburb areas came in. Such a situation requested to establish a new relationship between architecture and land as well as architecture and architecture.  The plots given to three architects share borders with each other, but their different hierarchical position is forming a clear boundar... 9X9 EXPERIMENTAL HOUSE

In Building, dwelling, thinking, Heidegger mentioned about the relationship about dwelling like below.“These buildings house man. He inhabits them and yet does not dwell in them, when to dwell means merely that we take shelter in them. In today’s housing shortage even this much is reassuring and to the good; residential buildings do indeed provide shelter; today’s houses may even be well planned, easy to keep, attractively cheap, open to air, light, and sun, but-do the houses in themselves hold any guarantee that dwelling occurs in them? Yet those buildings that are not dwelling places remain in turn determined by dwelling insofar as they serve man’s dwelling.”In this text ,Heidegger is posing a problem of architecture that dose not approach... The Child & Youth Arts Education Center’ in the No

CONCEPT:The site is located on the edge of newly built high-rise residential blocks and the small scale city fabric. The intricate and sensitive context of the new building generated the central questions underpinning the design: How to create a dialogue between two? How to respect and preserve the area while experiencing a persuasive presence of huge developments on the background. How to form new links in the district and bring healthy coherence to the institution itself. The project emerges from the idea of creating a green amphitheater accommodating two distinct programmes on a triangular site. An open garden which acts like a terraced amphitheater for viewing the city panorama. In addition, the elevated landscape has a characteristic se... More
