In the new urban district of Belvédère in Bordeaux, we designed Facette. It’s our response to the request for a place that fosters new ways of working and offers the flexibility, collaboration and diversity essential for today's entrepreneurs. Amsterdam-based architecture and urban design practice Studioninedots has completed Highnote, a landmark residential tower geared towards young urbanites who are just starting out. Highnote

We’re thrilled to present the finalised Highnote, a new residential tower for starters in Almere and the latest addition to the city skyline. For the design, we came up with a unique feature: a triangular plinth that consists entirely of 'urban rooms'. They are intimate, urban indoor and outdoor spaces, flowing into each other and enticing you to wander through them. Each urban room sparks its own sense of wonder, yet always leaves its use to your imagination. Sebastian van Damme Along the edges of the entire plot, one continuous colonnade contours the urban room sequence. Its appearance is strong yet abstract, inviting your own interpretation of the spaces it surrounds. Together, the urban rooms create the gradual transition fr... More

De Jakoba

De Jakoba brings new energy to the Overhoeks neighbourhood in Amsterdam-Noord. In 'Manhattan at the IJ', as the new city district which fronts the IJ harbour opposite Central Station is also referred to, De Jakoba introduces one of two new social housing complexes. Making use of form and smart building methods, we realised a powerful and qualitative building within budget for any Dutch social housing development, and a recognisable place that people are proud to live in and want to care for. Peter Tijhuis Within the formal urban plan for the Overhoeks area – which with its ‘campus-like’ setting is rather un-Amsterdam – we gave our own interpretation of the set rules. The plan specified setbacks for the building... More

Amsterdam’s Westbeat a sculptural connector designed by Studioninedots

Designed by Studioninedots, Westbeat forms a new sculptural link within the public space network of Amsterdam. Standing 8.5 meters in height and with a footprint of 65 x 50 meters, the building is designed with 86 arches that accommodate a core of ‘super space’ for diverse uses.  Frans Parthesius The variation in arch shapes and height create differentiation in floor levels and a variety of welcoming social spaces that range from more open to more intimate. These arches also provide a visual and structural transition between the wide spans of the basement carpark and the 150 dwellings in the upper superstructure. The largest arch takes a prominent position on the corner of the building, asserting itself in the public... More
