Fes Aquapark Complex is located in a 10000 square meter site near thermal bath fountains in Fes, Morocco. In the programming phase, we studied Fes vernacular architecture, climate, politics, history, and culture. We focused on the fundamental components of Fes and tried to design by using its characteristic elements. One of the most significant concepts derived out from Fes was the Maze, which refers to the chaotic infra-structure of the city. Another concept which contributed most to the design process was the hybrid character of the Morocco architecture affected by different cultures like Barbarians, Spain and Islamic countries. Team: Gabriel Verd + Buró4 This project commenced just as the economy was beginning to recover from the recession. The aim was to come up with a residential development that was the different from the one widely used in the area and base on an obsolete partial development plan. The old plan proposed blocks with a wide width and interior courtyards for ventilation, but where the orientation of the homes and the organisation of the free areas were not a priority. To amend the plan, a detailed study had to be drafted, setting out a different type of block, one that was ccompatible with the general plan in force and wich would help to create a new city model. The project won an architectural competition which took place in 2009. The shape of the building was designed in an irregular, organic form. It refers to a green landscape, the surroundings of Chełmska Mountain in Koszalin. The inspiration for the roof was the shape of a leaf lying on the surface of water. The structure of the roof was designed as a wooden dome, finished with a roof membrane, partially descending to the surrounding area. Above the main roof there is the cuboid block of +3 storey: offices. From the south-west side, there is a staircase to serve customers of four different waterslides.
