Schwimmoper Swimming Centre, Wuppertal

The “Schwimmoper” (English: “Swimming Opera House”) gets its name from the destroyed Barmen Opera House, which was to have been rebuilt where the swimming centre now stands.Even in the 1950s, the “Schwimmoper” in Wuppertal was considered to be an extraordinary and well equipped sports centre. Thanks to modernisation work completed in 2010, its good reputation has also been brought up to date. In addition to a newly designed sauna and fitness area, the swimming centre boasts an imposing renovated swimming hall with room for 1600 spectators. The galleries extend parallel to the large sports pools and provide visitors with an optimum view of the competitions.Strong colours and high-quality materials create a... More

Silberquarzit

Our worldwide unique natural stone Silberquarzit is mined in South Tyrol / Italy at 1,500 m a.s.l. Silberquarzit is part of the former coastal strip of the ancient sea Tethys. Through the continental shift this tight quartzite band protrudes out vertically as a metamorphosed rock in the Pfitsch valley and can be mined there. The material is available in the colors light and dark, as well as with two surfaces of rough-cleaved (natural surface) and diamond sawn surface. After the blasting, the raw material in the quarry is carefully selected. Some blocks are produced with the diamond sawn surface, others are split by hand with a hammer and chisel (natural surface). Due to its unique properties, our natural quartz Silberquarzit is ideal for us... More

Casa LJ

Earthy, simplicity… these are the first two words which the clients pronounced during our first meeting as fundaments of the inspirational concept leading the project of their Mediterranean house in Italy. And it was suddenly reciprocal love. Others words we used were: open space, integration, solidity , continuity , natural, easy, sustainable and environmental friendly. The context: an existent private house with garden and swimming pool of about 200 sq.m with a fantastic view and natural environment on the extreme western Ligurian coast, at about 6 km to the French border and the Côte d’Azur. The house was originally built in 1970 and renovated fifteen years ago.The clients (LJ from now), an adorable Spanish couple, firstly fell in love w... More

twothree hotel

As the requirement of the owner, an aged apartment on Sukhumvit 23 road, in the heart of Bangkok, Thailand, has been renovated into a seven-storey hotel named ‘TwoThree Hotel’. The small dimensions of the apartment rooms and their windows were found to be the major issue in the existing building since this resulted in the uncomfortable rooms with insufficient daylight. To improve the existing deficient spaces, the architect decided to expand the room sizes and openings simultaneously to generate larger, brighter and more functional hotel rooms. In doing so, each former unused balcony is now playing a new role as an interior daybed corner. However, there are also constraints in the small land area and building regulation as the distances betwe... HSBC | housescape

The project tries to configure an idea of living conceived as fluid space, protected but at the same time interconnected with the surrounding landscape, able to grant privacy to the family but to project it perceptively in a wider spatiality, to connect it to the scale of the neighbourhood. The house presents itself as a diaphragm of open and closed, built and natural spaces variously interlaced. Clearly defined volumetric structures are placed into the fluid space that connects the “inside” with the “outside”, the “built” with the natural, house and landscape. The building is developed on two floors built on a single dimensional span that rules the relation of an empty and transparent space with volumes (the bedrooms – studios) that set them... New build eco family home, Surrey

ArchitectureLIVE were appointed to provide a redesign for a new-build family home replacing existing WW2 structures in rolling Surrey countryside. Our proposal is for the construction of a partially pre-fabricated 2-storey single family home with an attached double garage, outbuildings and an outdoor swimming pool. The new design seeks to blend in with its natural surroundings through the use of a combination of locally sourced natural materials such as stone and timber cladding. The planned orientation of the dwelling responds sympathetically to it's setting by framing the mature trees and is optimal for the use of renewables. Building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) and a ground-source heat pump combined with a high performance bu... More
