Argo Hotel Mykonos

On the Greek island of Mykonos is the fantastic Argo Hotel Mykonos for which they decided to give a new look by using our Cements Smoke ceramic, a colour that imitates cement, adding the advantages of porcelain stoneware, placing it all over the terrace, a simple way to modernise the hotel. Caption Caption In addition to the terrace, paved in the 75x75 square format, they also included this colour for the swimming pool with the 37.5x75 tiles for the interior, the Creta edge for the pool coping and the RJ67 ceramic drainage grille, which is very useful especially in overflowing pools of this type, preventing the water from overflowing more than necessary. This colour creates a deep blue colour in the water, which, combined with th... More

Cagnes-sur-Mer, Côte d'Azur - The aromas of the garrigue envelop the essential forms of a private villa in the heart of the Côte d'Azur. The contemporary style that defines the interior can also be found in an outdoor inspired by the heterogeneous nuances of the surrounding nature. Midlake Quartz Grey reinterprets the essence of the place with refined simplicity.    Two sizes of the same K2 collection of stone-effect porcelain stoneware cover the exterior of the villa: the 22.5X45 for the pool, the 60X90 for the large terrace. The 20 mm floors are anti-slip, sturdy and unchanged by weather. A path of precious slabs set in the green creates continuity between the two outdoor areas, reflecting the soft light of the Mid... Methoni Wellness Villas

Similarly to the Greek term νόστος, used in Ancient Greek literature and describes the feelings of an epic hero returning home by sea, the identity of Methoni Wellness Center revolves around memory and the feeling of reaching something familiar. In Ancient Greek society, it was deemed a high level of heroism or greatness for those who managed to return. This journey is usually very extensive and includes being shipwrecked in an unknown location and going through certain trials that test the hero. The theme of Nostos is brought to life in Homer’s Odyssey, where the main hero Odysseus tries to return home after battling in the Trojan War. The design approach aims to create a unique wellness retreat connectin... More

Project • By Katerina Valsamaki ArchitectsPrivate Houses

The single storey vacation house is located in the area of Korinthos, at Peloponnese in Greece. The four acres plot is almost flat, overlooking the Corinthian bay at the north, while offering an impressive view of the extraordinary hill of Examilia at the west. The single straight white volume hosts both the house and its open or shaded patios within a structure that acts as a cloister in relation to the plot, while the rest of the surrounding terrain remains in its natural form. The concept was to cohere the inside and outside living into a single volume, a rectangular parallelepiped composed of solid, open and transparent surfaces. The unification of the indoor and outdoor spaces in transition creates spatial amplitude for the 137 m2 dwel... More

Summer House

IDEA One of the key design intents was to create a building that would be completely open to the surroundings, providing the possibility to observe and engage in direct contact with nature. The concept of a one-story summer house with a panoramic view of the sea was designed with seasonal recreation and weekends outside the city in mind. This 85-square-meter large building is set in a rocky seaside area with direct contact with water. The house comprises two principal parts: a living space and a swimming pool located on the roof. In the building plan with a triangle-based layout, one can distinguish a central living area and an external passage with a panoramic view of the seaside. The structure of the building is based on three structure... More

Istoria, a member of Design Hotels

Interior Design Laboratorium presents its first holistic architectural and interior design project, ISTORIA hotel a unique Mediterranean sanctuary inspired by people’s original stories. The fundamental design idea of ISTORIA stems from the building itself and the stories of the people who have resided in it throughout the years. Interior Design Laboratorium’s initial contact with the existing building, in September 2017, brought to light a true story from the building’s past. The premises included 5 stables where the former... More

Mahon Pool

The existing Mahon Pool Amenities building was located on the edge of a spectacular rock shelf overlooking the ocean and Mahon pool. The building itself was a delapidated 1960’s brick box, which was had no relationship with its context and was visually intrusive.   Our proposal sought to create a linear building, which receded into the cliffside landscape. The building shape responds to the rock form folding around the contours and its precaste materiality seeks to become an extension of the rock landform.   A concrete skirt extends from the building and creates a terraced shelf  inviting occupation and lounging. The  shelf extends into a stair down to the Pool as well as integrating within the broader parkland... More

Atelier Luxury Apartments Landscape

Real estate developer Carmel Partners awarded Surfacedesign creative control of the outside living spaces at its luxury apartment project Atelier, designed by architecture firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz.  Taking inspiration from the building’s proximity to the former Los Angeles Garment District, Surfacedesign’s overall approach was influenced by the Bauhaus textile patterns of Anni Albers.  Geometrical lines and shapes are repeated throughout the 33-story project’s two outdoor living spaces: pool/amenity deck and rooftop lounge.  Surfacedesign injected the textile inspiration into the composition, stitching together the hardscape with a rich landscape of native and Mediterranean plantings.   Atelier&rsq... Project • By LPzR architetti associatiHousing

A few steps from Parco Sempione, the green heart of the city of Milan, LPzR architects have designed a new “nearly zero energy” (nZEB) residential building, with innovative technological solutions and a swimming pool on the roof.   “Urban stitching” is the concept. The architects wanted to design a new link between two extremely heterogeneous buildings: a three-storey school complex from the 1800s, and an eight-story residential building from the 1960s. The new volumes align carefully with the adjacent buildings, to fit morphologically into the pre-existing architectures. The compositional language, on the other hand, is admittedly contemporary, even if there are references to traditional architectural element... More

Radisson Blu

The city of Jammu has witnessed immense political turmoil, causing social instability in the city, since independence; a condition that has drastically improved over the past few decades. Though the city has faced tremendous challenges, its enterprising, bold and energetic population has always strived to chart its development in a positive direction and keep its spirit alive. The design of the hotel is inspired from that spirit – to celebrate life!  The owners of the hotel had a clear vision – to create a landmark for the city; a beacon that reflects the wave of growth of its inhabitants and a place for celebration. With that vision, the idea was to create a crisp identity for the hotel and carve out spaces that are multi-... More

A hotel reception is an area with constant traffic that needs a resistant material for the flooring. The choice of an URBATEK – PORCELANOSA Grupo porcelain tile thus ensures durability with the best design. In the “Golden Tulip Sophia Antipolis – Hotel & Spa’ project the outdoor reception, terrace, pool area, restaurant, and outdoor rest areas were designed with the DEEP stone line, which provides quality and graphic variety to the entire setting; flamed, degraded, and sanded of one of the most elegant stones. Contemporary and surrounded by gardens, with a relaxing atmosphere based on the stone texture, its indirect lights and the sound of water make the visitor feel as if immersed in nature. More
