Liberty House

Nestled within the tranquil landscape of Hacıveliler Village in Ayvalik, this architectural project is the result of a thoughtful collaboration by an artistic family, aimed at creating a retreat that doubles as a dynamic venue for artistic gatherings and cultural exchange. The design philosophy was deeply rooted in the desire to blend the distinct local vernacular with contemporary architectural principles, fostering a seamless dialogue between tradition and modernity.

The primary objective of the structure’s design was to establish a harmonious connection between the built environment and its natural surroundings. Drawing inspiration from the region’s rich architectural heritage, local materials such as stone, wood, and terracotta were skillfully incorporated, paying homage to the village’s vernacular architecture while enhancing the comfort and functionality required for contemporary living. The use of these materials not only reinforces the building’s integration with its environment but also ensures its sustainable relationship with the land over time.

The design emphasizes both visual and physical permeability, with the intention of blurring the boundaries between the interior and the exterior spaces. Large openings, strategically placed windows, and terraces create an uninterrupted flow of light and air, allowing nature to permeate every aspect of the structure. This connection between the indoors and outdoors is not merely symbolic; it is a deliberate design decision to foster a continuous dialogue with the surrounding natural landscape. The interior spaces are characterized by their open, flexible layouts, where natural light floods in from all sides, creating a sense of openness and continuity that invites the occupants to feel immersed in the environment.

At the heart of the design is a sensitivity to the local climate and topography, with the building oriented to capture the prevailing winds and offer natural ventilation throughout. The architecture’s spatial organization promotes both privacy and community, providing intimate spaces for individual reflection as well as large, open areas that encourage collective engagement and creative collaboration.

This project serves as a testament to the marriage of local tradition with modern architectural strategies, creating a space where both the inhabitants and visitors can experience the full richness of the surrounding landscape while embracing contemporary comforts and a dynamic cultural atmosphere.
