The special location of the narrow and at the same time deep building site directly at the rushing Isar, flanked by listed buildings, the German Museum vis-a-vis and the Gärtnerplatz with its virulent hustle and bustle in the back, offered ample reason to deal in detail with the proud Munich cityscape. The aim was to complement the historic boulevard with a pleasantly integrated, elegant and at the same time identity-creating residential building as a city building block. In Pinnow, two houses are planned on a lake land: a tower at the highest point and a pavilion on the meadow to the lake. The property contains all the elements of the Uckermark in miniature: hills, forest, lake, also a cherry tree plantation and greenhouses. This project deals with the motif of the narrative, similar to the romanticism of an English landscape garden. They are half houses of pleasure, half for living, which are adapted in their scale and position to the surroundings, in order to emphasize their artificial dress at the same time.The pavilion as a hexagon offers views both in the cherry trees and the lake. This new single family house is situated right on a generous property next to the nature reserve of the city of Leer. The building consists of a residential building, an entrance courtyard and a garage. Colorful glass lamps shimmer like a tropical underwater world around the restaurant Pasta Maria, an Italian bistro, located in the heart of Potsdamer Platz, in the middle of Berlin. © Thomas Heimann   The lamps were developed together with a glassblower. The result is a spherical shape formed by two colored layers, so that each piece has a unique iridescent shine. The architects also designed the steel tables and stools specifically for the restaurant. In a turn-of-the-century old building in Berlin-Charlottenburg, part of an originally upper-middle-class apartment was converted for a fashion designer. © Thomas Heimann   The kitchen, placed in the living room, is enclosed in the wall like a fireplace and lined with copper. The kitchen folds out of the wall like a robe. An art collector has sought out an old turn-of-the-century apartment in Berlin-Charlottenburg to live and work in. It is a fragment of the social rooms of a former upper middle-class apartment. Corridors become representative rooms and in turn lead into small chambers of wonder. Located in Pinnow, Gerswalde, a residential and holiday home opens its glass facade upon the surrounding landscape of Uckermark. Its form typologically references surrounding residential barns and homes. The buildings base is set slightly back from the facade, giving it the appearance of levitating above the meadow. The gallery is located on the second floor of the listed Belle Epoque Palias Eger. At the height of the treetops of the wooded Jewish cemetery in Prenzlauer Berg, the small penthouse apartment is located over two floors on a side wing of an old Berlin building. © Thomas Heimann The special location and the residents' desire for intimacy and openness gave rise to a spatial plan with different floor levels and a coordinated carpenter's finish whose materiality and colorfulness are three-dimensional, space-creating. In a small village in the Uckermark, north of Berlin, a large barn has been converted into a country house with an additional independent apartment. The barn was built 140 years ago in a mixed construction of brick masonry and timber. In it’s time, an ultramodern functional building. After the barn was sold and divided the system was structurally converted for two settler families, and cattle, into a semi-detached homes. One half has now been redesigned by architect Thomas Kröger for a young family, using the pre-existing language of the house and adapting it by it’s own means and rules in reinventing itself. Within the calm, undulating landscape of Gerswalde in Uckermark, northeast Berlin a new work shop houses not only the designs of Gerhard Schütze, but also the home of their creator too. It has now been partly rebuilt and reconstructed for the product designer and carpenter Gerhard Schütze. transforming it into a functional and coherent balance of home, workshop and showroom aptly named Werkhaus. The house was orignally built in 1987 at Gerswalde in the Uckermark, northeast Berlin as a metal workshop and staff facilities for the local agricultural cooperative, LPG (Landwirtschaftliche Produktionsgenossenschaft). Located at the heart of two of the most popular tourist destinations in Berlin, Alexanderplatz and Leipziger Platz are two Italian cafés both of which where designed by Berlin architect Thomas Kröger. Both single space locations are lined by an border of trapezoidal sheeting. An open interlocking system of anodized, aluminium sheeting in brushed, warm gold projects down into the space from the ceiling. This golden construction is multiplied infinitely by the mirror covered walls. The guest room of the Leipziger Platz café is dominated by the counter. The new Central and Regional Library provides an interface between the city and the park. On one side lays the nearby veins of the city, the motorway and S-Bahn, and on the other, resides the vast expanse of the airfield with its former runway cutting a straight a path alongside. Highlighting its public nature, the iconic presence of the geometric structure links the building to its role from afar, and beyond this immediate context, also with the city and the site.
