The Yeongjongdo Onnuri Church stands as a unique religious center on a developing island near Seoul, South Korea. Its design integrates the symbolic form of Noah's Ark with the practical concept of upcycling dismantled ship hulls. The building's bow, pointed skyward, serves as a powerful visual reminder of the ark. Biwak 12 is the conversion of a typical 1980s restaurant located in the mountain village of Moso, in the heart of the Sesto Dolomites, in South Tyrol. In a small village everything revolves around the theme of the mountains: the idea is to create a meeting place where young and experienced mountaineers, local population and tourists can stay together in a relaxed colorful atmosphere. The installation and the signage of “Centro Servizi Culturali Santa Chiara”, property of Trento Municipality, have been commissioned by a tendering procedure. The project includes the exterior and interior parts of a medieval former convent, partially protected by “Sovrintendenza dei Beni architettonici” (cultural heritage committee). The “Centro Servizi”, thanks to the adjoining urban park, links different parts of the city and, together with the two theatres, attracts people of all ages and different cultures. CHALLENGEA historic landmark, The Brewster Carriage House stands at the intersection of three of New York’s oldest and most diverse neighborhoods. The building was gut renovated to house lofts on the upper floors and retail & restaurant on the lower. A completely new steel stair and elevator core was added to accomodate the program and create unexpected V-shaped hallways with private entries on the upper floors. Interiors were outfitted with reclaimed wood salvaged from the existing beams of the building, and contrasted with modern European kitchen and baths. RECOLLECTIONS touched on the sustainability of the past and its potential inherent treasure. The past is stored in our memories, and as such it is treasured within our deep emotional senses – this is conveyed in the manifestation of objects we create. The exhibition portrayed aspects of recollection and the past, reflected in objects through the work of five designers. The past and our reminiscences can be represented in various ways: Forgotten or overlooked materials; a re-interpretation of something once useful, that has since been neglected; something dead brought back to life; something archived or stored, kept secret or secure; something rotten, damaged; something lost or out of fashion; a celebration and valuation of old tradition...
