In 1989, after some work experience in Switzerland, Beda Faessler, dipl arch ETH/SIA, went on a longer journey to Japan. He was deeply impressed by japanese architecture and surprisingly got the possibility to work in a tokyo architects office named ESTEC. After realizing several housing projects, there was a change into working for the international known office of Riken Yamamoto & Field Shop.
After 8 Years of practice in Japan the idea of establishing a joint office with Riken Yamamoto in Europe was developed. 1997 was the founding of this practice "riken yamamoto & beda faessler, architects gmbh" in Zug, Switzerland.
Our architecture aims at integrating social as well as design and functional aspects. Target is the integration of the architecture into the surrounding social fabric of daily life in opposition to creating introvert, self-sufficient designs.
A long practice of progressive housing designs could recently be extended with university- school- and culture building projects. The architecture language is dominated by innovative use of structural elements, using all possibilities of transparency and movable, flexible design and building elements.
Use of recent advantages of internet technology in combination with digitalization allows for intensive collaboration over the distance of Switzerland to Japan. This is completed by regular direct meetings.
