Studio Akkerhuis Architects

Bart Akkerhuis is the founder of Studio Akkerhuis, a Paris based Architecture and Design Firm. Our diverse group of 45 architects from two dozen countries forms a collaborative and open minded team, sharing a common passion for architecture and design.

Since its founding in September 2014, the studio has grown rapidly, working internationally on a variety of high-profile projects. The firm’s work ranges from small-scale installations — such as a 250-seat temporary theatre made of bamboo- to the adaptive reuse of the 55 000 m² factory ‘Meelfabriek’ into a mixed-use complex in Leiden, Netherlands.

The studio is dedicated to creativity and originality while recognising the pragmatic necessities associated with delivering design and architectural projects. From concept design to construction supervision, the studio works on all architectural design stages. Working as a team with our clients and consultants, we pay particular attention to the detail and development of bespoke solutions throughout a truly collaborative design process.

In 2016 the studio received the Design Vanguard Award from Architectural Record and in 2019 won the prestigious World Architecture Festival Award for the Meelfabriek (Flour Mill) project in Leiden, Netherlands.

Akkerhuis was a former associate of Renzo Piano Building Workshop. Studio Akkerhuis continues to collaborate with Renzo Piano Building Workshop on several projects in Paris, Toronto and Monaco.
