The commission to design the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 71 shot Richard Rogers, together with partner Renzo Piano of Piano + Rogers, onto the world stage. The Lloyd’s of London was Richard Rogers Partnership’s first commision and established Rogers as a leading architect.

Richard Rogers Partnership, since 2007 Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, went on to realize iconic projects such as the Millennium Dome, Barajas Airport, Assembly for Wales, Antwerp Law Courts, European Court of Human Rights, and more recently the Leadenhall Building, the Macallan Distillery and LSE Centre Building.

He has won about every prize conceivable in the architectural world such as the Pritzker, RIBA Gold Medal, AIA Gold Medal and the Légion d’honneur.

Roger’s scope went beyond buildings towards a city that in his words “will no longer be zoned as today in isolated one-activity ghettos; rather they will resemble the more richly layered cities of the past. Living, work, shopping, learning, and leisure will overlap and be housed in continuous, varied and changing structures.”

Richard Rogers will be remembered as one of the greatest pioneers of his generation and an inspiration to the generations that follow him.
