Interior remodeling of apartament built in the fifties.
It is located at Higienopolis, one of the most central and traditional São paulo’s districts and known for its mid century high-rise apartment buildings. The project tried to maintain some of the original elements, adapting the needs of the family.
Its plan needed to be adapted to receive a big family with four teenagers. They often have guests and throw parties. So, open, integrated and generous spaces were one of the premises. The clients liked the original hardwood tile flooring and asked for its restoration, keeping some retro atmosphere. They also enjoy cooking, so the kitchen should be equipped with professional appliances and thought as another gathering place.
The key challenge was transforming the original - 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom plan - into a 5 suite + 1 guest room layout. Creating 2 new bathrooms in the old apartment configuration was not Easy task. They also needed to store great amount of tableware, glasses, beverage and personal belongings.
The solution found was to create 4 demi-suites (Each two bedrooms share one bathroom). In the living and dining room we created a long wooden sideboard which lay in beverage , books and support food and drinks during parties and dinners.
A couple works in advertising companies have 4 teenage kids. They love Art and since the pandemics started to Work and studiyng frequently from Home. They love cooking, reading and throwing parties.
Elements of the mid century architecture are still present in the apartment and influenced some choices, such as the pau ferro Wood sheet used in furniture all over the apartment and the maintenance of round columns in the social area. The contrast between new and old features creates an interesting and unique atmosphere, not found in recent built apartments for instance.
