Stone Cottage

This 1930’s Lake Valhalla cottage was fully gutted to it’s 18″ thick walls made from surrounding field stone. The client asked to preserve the exterior while updating the interior to the 21st century. Hudson Design preformed an energy audit, which took into account the orientation and small footprint of the house, the re-finished steel frame windows with insulated glass, and the sealed gaps at all windows, doors, floors and masonry. The audit lead Hudson Design to the conclusion that the 18″ stone walls required no additional insulation. The client has used the cottage for multiple winters and finds it warm and cozy.
