The Zurich Animal Protection office deals with all the organizational and administrative tasks of the charitable association, and it is situated at the same location as the animal shelter. Recent animal welfare legislation required Zurich Animal Protection to enlarge the accommodation it provides for animals. At Zurichberg, the Association has constructed a building which not only gives a temporary home to rescued animals but also exceeds statutory regulations and sets new standards in animal welfare. Its close proximity to the zoo is advantageous and considered socially positive.
Animals such as dogs, cats, or hamsters feel most comfortable in familiar surroundings. To this end, the architect «thought» the building from the inside outwards and designed the spatial interiors and fittings sympathetically. At the same time, the building has been «designed» from outside inwards. Through its transparent shell, the building’s interiors can be viewed in a similar way to a terrarium. The glass facade with 1’400 m2 of laminated SEFAR® Architecture VISION Fabric provides an ideal habitat for animals and humans alike. Externally, the surroundings flow into the building.
