Cuernavaca House,Taller 5 Arquitectos + Alejandro Gutiérrez Design Studio.

The project is situated on a flat, rectangular plot, generating a rational reading of the site through a longitudinal layout that enhances cross ventilation, natural lighting, and a fluid dialogue between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The structure and concept are based on a sober and purist architecture, with an emphasis on honest materials. The architectural language is expressed through flat exposed concrete roofs, accompanied by exposed steel columns and beams, giving the ensemble a contemporary industrial aesthetic. The material palette includes steel, natural wood, glass, and stone finishes in neutral tones, promoting a warm and sophisticated atmosphere.

On the ground floor, entry is through a central vestibule that emphasizes the main circulation axis and frames the main staircase, conceived as a sculptural piece that organizes vertical circulation across both levels. Horizontally, it integrates with a lattice wall that essentially separates the bedrooms from the social area. The kitchen, featuring an open and elegantly functional design, connects directly with the dining and living areas, creating a spatial continuity that extends to the outdoor terrace and pool. Large floor-to-ceiling glass panels eliminate visual barriers between interior and exterior, generating a sense of transparency and spaciousness.

At the center of the ensemble lies a rectangular pool, a key feature of the project, acting as an articulating axis between the social spaces: living room, dining room, terrace, and game area. This spatial relationship is further enhanced by the visual integration of the pool, which includes a pool bar and jacuzzi—designed for both family and social enjoyment. The body of water extends toward the back garden, establishing a visual focal point.

The second level is accessed via the central staircase made of steel and wood, a suspended sculptural element that brings character and dynamism to the heart of the house. On the right wing is the master suite, conceived as a spacious private retreat. This volume includes a walk-in closet, a high-end bathroom, and a private gym that opens onto a terrace with panoramic views of the pool and garden. On the left wing is the secondary bedroom, arranged in double height with a mezzanine that houses a cozy study. The program is complemented by a bathroom and a game area. Also located in this wing is an independent home office that opens onto the rear terrace, sharing views of the garden and pool, in harmony with the introspective nature of the space.

Finally, at the center of the upper floor, there is an open family room designed as a gathering and transition point between the private volumes. Bathed in natural light, this space acts as an articulating core and a lookout over the central area of the residence.
