Mecano Mobile

Celebrating the first ADN Forum anniversary event in Madrid, Patricia Bustos Studio has created 'Mecano Mobile' in collaboration with Sixty Pro.

Inspired by the architecture of Carlo Scarpa "Mecano mobile" represents a new way of conceiving modular kitchens formed by a structure organised in the shape of a Meccano that perfectly meshes the storage volumes with the seating and bar areas.

With the use of geometries and polygons we want to create a space of visually striking forms and design new kitchen formats composed of more complex structures that explore new aesthetic possibilities in the world of kitchens.

The entrance is a tribute to scarpa with a seventies façade of perforated polycarbonate in which light enters through organic shapes that contrast with the interior geometry. The idea is to recreate terraces and slopes to play with movement within an orthogonal box that at first sight seems more rigid.

The distribution is divided into three areas, a central kitchen area, a lateral office area and on the opposite side the water area and high worktop, creating a sequence of spaces and a careful manipulation of light that enhances the whole.

Playing with the contrast between the organic and the geometric. Between the very small and the very large, between the whole and the parts, and handling the light to accentuate these contrasts, which are also reflected in the selection and arrangement of materials, such as the use of geometric mosaics and tiles in specific patterns to create interesting visual effects.

The degrade lacquered wood emerges from the walls as an extruded volume that decomposes the lines of the container, generating a harmonious piano or domino-like movement. The tile checkerboard with retro volumetry, which contrasts with the polished Lacquer and the backlit etched glass is tempered by a completely carpeted floor and a bench in animal print fabric. In short, a play of materials that reflect the use of delicate craftsmanship and a careful consideration of the relationship between space, light, materials and colour.
