The Gragg Lofts Apartments are located on a block of industrial buildings and face a residential neighborhood of modest wood framed houses. The building is comprised of symmetrical two story loft units capped by a one level penthouse. All oft he units are entered off the street at a common portal. The loft apartments are entered directly, while the penthouse is accessed by a stairway that bisects the building and climbs to a third floor balcony where the penthouse entry is located.
The building draws from its mixed use context, combining the concrete of its neighboring industrial buildings with the wood frame construction common to the houses across the street. The building’s windows and doors are positioned to maximize light and ventilation. Reclaimed materials are used for exterior and interior applications. Solar panels provide power.
