Brasswood Cellars

Located in the Napa Valley, this project is a winery production facility as well as housing hospitality space. This long barrel-shaped building retains a low profile while accommodating the winery's production and hospitality functions. The building’s siting preserves three old-growth oak trees and incorporates them as screening. The green living roof is designed as the largest visible volume so the building blends into the hillside. The metal horizontal-slatted forms of the trellis that run along the front are designed so their pattern changes to observers as they drive by. The exterior walls are stucco with accents of stone veneer, a nod to the collection of historic stone wineries in the area. An expansive front window of structural glass gives a glimpse into production areas from outside. The two semicircular buildings, offset at the back, are tank rooms designed for efficiency. The cave system is fully integrated into the complex. The portal establishes an axis perpendicular to the building, which runs through the hospitality gardens. The axis culminates in a welcoming entry court enclosed by low, beautifully textured, board formed concrete walls that mirror the curves of the tank rooms.
